good bad and the ugly is awesome, as are a handful of john wayne movies from the sixties/early seventies..... rio bravo, big jake, the sons of katie elder, true grit, etc....

to think that Hackman didn't want this role, turned it down several times, and had to be begged by eastwood to finally take it, amazes me....

great role by a great actor.... very deserving of an oscar....
