There are different cultural and societal norms across the globe regarding taking a shit. For instance I was at a party with a lot of Europeans and someone took a dump at the party. I thought that was a strange place to dump out and made a remark to a German friend of mine. He didn't know why I thought it was funny or even out of the ordinary. Like as if a party at someone else's house was a grand place to take a shit. Weird.

Worst is when you do have to use a public stall in an emergency piss situation as all the urinals are tied up and you find a turd is still left sitting there in the toilet unflushed and staring you in the face.

I can see how the train would be tricky. Spent my fair share of time on trains but never trips much longer than hour so could hold it for a better spot. Planes are a different story though. Take off from one place at 7am so board at 6:30am then land somewhere else 3 hours later with a sub 1 hour layover to connect in another terminal and hop on another 3 hour flight. You just don't have an opportunity to drop a duece anywhere but the plane.
