Belushi did a lot of ad libbing in Animal House, constantly going off script.
The cafeteria scene the cameraman turned to John Landis and said "what's Belushi doing"?
Landis told the cameraman I don't know just follow him and get it all on film.

Comedy is very subjective, thats for sure. I didnt find Robin Williams very funny when he was alive.
Ditto for Jim Carrey or Steve Martin (except for Liar, Liar).
My favourite comedians are Chevy Chase, Dennis Miller and Steve Chapelle

Like I mentioned in post 1 comedy is subjective, you are correct.
What's funny to one might be inane to another.
There's no right or wrong answers.
I have a few passions in life.
Math, computer science, analytics, and especially comedy. (I know, I have a strange mind)
When I was younger I used to do freelance work on a drive time comedy talk show.
Not full time as I had/have a full time job.
My love for comedy is the reason I started this thread.
I see by your list you like what I call the 'dry' humor.
And that's good.
Chase I thought was hit or miss funny but a 'dry' comic. I prefer Akroyd (another 'dry' comic)
I love Dennis Miller, he has a deadpan style I like plus I like wordsmiths and he's a great one.
Chapelle isn't that dry, I really like him. Quick witted.
A lot of actors who aren't really considered comics are very funny too.
Bruce Willis who I really like is one of them. Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Michael Douglas, and 'Batman' Adam West come to mind.
I'm a huge Michael J. Fox fan, even though one might not think of him as a comic his movies were very funny and solid.
He was extremely successful in Family Ties for two reasons.
1) Women (and girls) thought he was extremely cute.
2) He was/is a master at timing. Comedy is all about the timing and delivery of the joke/gag/punch line.
Bruce Willis is a master at that too, ditto the late John Ritter.
You mentioned Robin Williams.
One of the great one line comics. I loved his rapid fire delivery.
Master at ad libbing too. Extremely quick witted. (Groucho Marx was the quickest wit that ever lived in my opinion. David Letterman too)
I found Robin William's movies hit or miss. His serious roles I could never wrap my head around, but his lighter stuff like Good Morning Vietnam was I thought genius.
Speaking of Robin Williams it's eerie on how many. many comics self destructed (for lack of a better term) and died in real life.
Williams commited suicide. Belushi, Chris Farley, Lenny Bruce, Greg Giraldo, Mitch Hedberg all OD'ed (and others), John Candy and Chris Farley literally ate themselves to death. There's others that self destructed but are still living. Kramer (Michael Richards) had a meltdown on stage for instance. I'm a gigantic fan of Jim Breuer who was well on his way to self destructing but had children with his wife that he worships an literally cleaned up his act including eliminating all racy jokes and humor from his routine.

Mitch Hedburg was awesome...If have two legs and are flamable you are never blocking a fire exit...
Love Breuer too...
