All good rudes, i am on ur side on this one. I am a bit different then most when it comes to training/working out. I guess it boils down to each individuals wants, if u are into training strickly for cosmetic purposes then bench is more up ur ally and thats all good. I am trying to be the best athlete i can be and benching doesnt provide me with enough benefits to be included in my training. I am definately not opposed to anyone doing it, to each his/her own

Probably 8 or 10 times.. I prefer to do sets of 50 pushups these days as I get older.. Pushups works the core more also.. Not into that huge chest that sticks out anymore either.. Lean and mean is the way to go ....

My best was 225 four or five reps many, many years ago. Still work out but never heavier than 185.

I can't even do a push up, or a lap around the block so I'm guessing zero.

I might be able to get 1. I haven't tried to hit 2 plates on each side. I bench once a week and I hit 135x10 155x8 165x6 twice. Thats my routine. I incline and decline afterwards and then normally finish with some cable flys. I am 6'1 180 pound natty. I am more Zyzzcvnt than von moger.

I think the way to go is a narrower grip and not let the bar hit your chest which is when you put a lot of strain on your shoulders, start pushing back up about 3-4 inches from your chest. You can't do as much weight but you're working the muscles throughout and you avoid that bad shoulder angle. Maybe I'm wrong but it sure felt better when I did it yesterday.

To answer the question, I'm not sure how many times I can do 225, but on high rep days I do 315 for 3 sets of 10

Training should be about making yourself complete, work on your weeknesses and become a better athlete overall and healthier in the long run.
That's really it in a nutshell. Best workouts i do now are at a mile track in a park and every couple hundred yards of jogging they have a station where you stop do dips, then pushups, sit-ups etc. etc. It's a complete body workout.

Answer OP's question i ironically got challenged at my work last week for the 225ibs challenge. I completed 17 full reps and have not challenged myself in this way in years. Always been a strong lifter.

I don't really max out on anything anymore though. I'm in my 30s now and don't want to hurt myself.

I used to start with 225 and work up to 300 for reps but now I rarely go above 255 on a set.
