You'd think everyone would agree that we should keep everything just as it always has been. Ya know, so us old folk don't get too startled by the young-uns and their new fangled ideas.

And if public standards ever change to the point rooting at 12 is considered fine, whats that got to do with how you feel right now today anyway?
"thin edge of the wedge" is a fear concept built up by old establishment when they have run out of arguments. Standards and opinions change. Deal with it!.Comment -

Is society pressuring people to accept pedophilia??? Nope.
How bout lowering the age of consent??? Nope.
Incest??? Nope.
Bestiality??? Nope.
Forcing people to be gay??? Nope.
The only people talking about this stuff is people like you. It's because you secretly desire those things. There is no other explanation for it.Comment -

And honestly, in a country where the age of consent is 18 or 21 or whatever it is over there, I'd be surprised if there was not some public pressure to lower it. It's out of kilter with normal Western standards. I think it's higher than anywhere else in the world.
I don't agree. Why do you think we should be allowed to root 12 year olds? Whats the logical case for it?
If there isnt one it aint going to happen..Comment -

#59Let's see...
There is no other explanation for it.I'm getting the vibe that you are a younger guy that has not been around too long yet, so let me delve a little deeper. I'm not going into an argument of right and wrong. I'm trying to explain that things evolve. Presidents continued to be against abortion, even when it was legal until Clinton came along. Saw an episode of Archie Bunker's Place the other day where everyone stared at Archie and his black housekeeper because they thought they were a couple, and mixed marriages were a thorn to society then. People made a big deal of Reagan being the first divorcee to become president. Before that, people made a big deal of Kennedy being a Catholic. "don't ask, don't tell" was seen as a major win for homosexuals in 1994, now it's seen as bigoted.
Things evolve. You can say all you want to that the items you listed are just old folks fear mongering or secretly desiring these things, but what are you going to think when society makes that next step of evolving, and finds it acceptable. When I was a teenager in the 80's, everyone would laugh at the idea of gays getting married. We couldn't even imagine that guys using a girl's bathroom would be an issue. 30 years later, here we are. The question I'm bringing up is will someone stand true to their beliefs now, or will they keep on evolving with what society is doing?Comment -

Have you ever been in a room with someone who is making racist or bigoted comments to a group of people blissfully ignorant that everyone does not think the same way?
And they will probably never will be convinced they are out of step because the majority of people dont even care enough to argue the point, as they know the argument is already over anyway..Comment -

#63Not young. Thanks for the delusional trip down memory lane. Fixing wrongs of the past is a good thing. You keep saying society is pressuring people to go down the wrong road. Some fringe groups are to no avail. I just want to see human beings who are not victimizing others to have equal rights and not be hurt. Is that asking too much????Comment -

#64I think they have changed a lot. It's just you (and me to an extent) who haven't changed our opinion. Evidence is the actual changes we see. It's not just a media conspiracy that cause these changes. Real people drive and accept those opinions. It just seems like more people disagree because it's only those that disagree we hear complaining about changes.

#65in north carolina in the 60's it was illegal for mixed races to marry. Now it is common place. In the 70's when i grew up cornhole was what to homosexuals did. Now it is a game. In the 80's you had to have 20 % down to buy a house. Now you can get them with no money down. In the 80's it cost me 2000 a semester to go to miami university(that included room and board) Notre dame was 6000. The govt wasn't in the loaning business for schools. Now my niece goes to oklahoma and with sorority fees it runs 45,000. Life has changed and not for the better.Comment -

#68I never said "wrong road". Ever. In the same breath, who dictates that something is wrong? Hypothetically speaking, if they were to legalize incest down the line, would you then say that it was wrong to "victimizing others" of their equal rights? Aren't they being hurt right now if you use that standard?Comment -
