Louisville is pretty cheap. Housing isn't expensive, nor is food. Tons of places hiring (blue and white collar jobs), you have Churchill Downs within miles (if you like the ponies) and Horseshoe Indiana within 30-45 minutes if you want to hit up a casino.

Decent amount of things to do, lots of local places to go. You can make it to Lexington in an hour, Cincinnati in 90 minutes, Indy in 2 hours, or Nashville in 3.

Just avoid the west end of the city (high crime/poverty).

dumbass... it's a penetrating fortune to live there now, people die sleeping in their cars during the winter because they can't afford a place to stay.

how has no one mentioned las vegas? the cost of living is dirt cheap for a million plus city. I barely pay 600/month for a two bedroom 4plex thing.

Ada's a few hours south of OKC, been there plenty of times. Pretty small little town, about 25k people I'd guess. Nice college there and some great BBQ joints. Best Sweet Tea I've ever had comes from a little gas station in Ada. Damn do I miss that

He's probably doing alright hauling oil, a lot of OT to be had in the oil field.

If OKC is cheaper than dirt to live in then Ada is cheaper than cheap dirt to live in.

he's probably happier than he's ever been as a truck driver.. he drove cross country for years
and finally got a fairly local job. Not from there at all, but that's where the job was. It's a small
oil hauling co, more like a group of owner operators who formed a co and he drives the old man's rig
who doesn't drive anymore.. previously he lived in Florida and is from New England originally.
He really likes it there and stays within OK .. living in the rig that has sleeper, etc. Not a bad gig
probably the least aggravating truck driving job he's had in 20 years.
Somewhere in the 60k's he's making and this is his first oil driving job, less than 1 yr in.
Said there are jobs there.. fwiw.. testing oil and like you said, oil field work, etc.
