Unless you have specific job skills the situation is basically crap everywhere. They are cutting jobs in shale oil territory which was one of the last areas an everyman could get paid. There's lots of part time work available with equal shit pay. Stick close to a network of people you know and can fall back on and get some part time work.

Pittsburgh pa just left housing crazy cheeap and rent food prices decent old mill town but with a city feel nice place but had to leave.

Arkansas is a mess. Toledo, OH is really cheap right now, but also sucks in just about every way. You probably want that balance of cost-effective and don't have to look over your shoulder all day. People who are saying Frisco and Florida are dicks, most of that area is super expensive.

Lots of good places in TX, and no state taxes. Small towns in TN and VA still really nice.

You said the cheapest place but that is not what you want. You want the best place to get a job with the lowest cost of living. I would consider Dallas, Houston, Pittsburgh, Minneapolis and maybe even Fargo ND. If you don't like the cold, definitely Dallas or Houston.
