#181This is ridiculous....I'm sorry. Before I rant, please know that I give my money and time to those who are in need on a regular basis on my own volition. Don't believe me if you don't want, I don't care. I think it's important but I also believe the following:
What people need to realize is that a large majority of these people begging for $15/hr simply don't deserve it. This is a free market. You get what you are worth. If Employee X goes to his boss and begs for a raise, will he get it just because he needs it to buy a used Ipod on Craiglist or to pay for dog food for his little puppy? No. An employee gets a raise based on his production. Work your ass off and increase a company's production - then go ask for a raise and cite your value to the organization as the reason. That's the way it should be. I can guarantee you THIS: I've been to a McDonald's - 80% of the employees there are not, shall we say, in a hurry to help me out in the slightest. The majority of them barely earn their $7.25/hr or whatever it is.
Here's the bottom line: those people don't have any skills. Why? Because they made bad decisions in life that got them there. Who are the people working at McDonalds? College and high-school drop-outs, women who got pregnant by five different men before the age of 20 and are waiting in line for food stamps with 5 toddlers in tow. Guys who thought, "Naw, I don't wanna go to college, I'd rather do drugs!!". Degenerates on the news saying "give me MY MONEY!!!" that the government is distributing. You may be reading that and think its harsh - but its the truth. Just walk in there and tell me I'm wrong.
I made good decisions and I worked hard to get my degree and get a good job. Once I got that job, I worked really hard to move up and experience growth. So because I made these good decisions, I should have my hard-earned money automatically distributed (at ridiculous rates, mind you...) to those who made AWFUL decisions? And whose decisions put them in the position they are in to begin with? I'm sorry - that doesn't make sense. It's a free market. Make good decisions and earn your way. People are saying that CEO's and executives that climb the corporate ladder are snakes? Sure, maybe a guy here or there got lucky and had a connection that got him an extremely high-paying job. You really think, though, that those guys didn't get there by....get this...WORKING THEIR ASS OFF??
I promise you, they did......I'll close with this: the biggest unrealized epidemic in our country is that these people making AWFUL decisions are making babies. Those babies then know nothing but bad decisions because they're parented by people who know nothing but bad decisions. It's very, very sad to me.Comment -

#184crime is market driven, so why isn't punishment in america? Corporate guys, scammers, even the makers of spyware and all that bullshit get away with doing a lot of damage and don't get punished enough. If you steal a 40 oz. of beer from the store and get caught who really gives a shit in the big scheme of things, even if you steal 3 40's 3 different times, well in america it's 3 strikes you're out, when there's guys in offices fukking over whole work forces, scamming boileroom operations etc. Theft punishment in america should be about the amount of MONEY and DAMAGE it causes. steal some M&Ms, do an hour of community service; steal people's jobs, retirement savings, etc. get real prison time. it was proven that during that morgage scandal a few years ago banks were taking money from both sides, selling bogus morgages, fukking everything up, and the knew it. they got off with nothing. in other words, if you are in a position of power and you steal, the punishment should go up, everything else in america is bottom line and free market driven, how about punishment for stealing linking right into this, where the amount of MONEY directly relates to the punishment, instead of this hypocritical puritanical bullshit where petty theft is worse than corporate scamming.Comment -

#186To some degree, yes. Good decisions do not lead to min wage jobs. You show me someone working for min wage and most likely I'll show you their bad decisions. I say that objectively, not judgementally. For all I know I could be working for min wage next week. But it would only be because of bad decisions
However the inverse is certainly not true. I know plenty of people in the medical field (nurses, doctors) that are making very good money yet consistently make bad choiceS. Seems like the higher you are on the ladder, the more it takes to knock you down to the bottom rung:
I work with a doctor that's had nearly a dozen rehab stints and DUI's. Addicted to pain meds. Temporarily lost his license to practice.
Now he's reinstated and making good money againLast edited by The Kraken; 09-14-14, 09:05 AM.Comment -

#188You guys are very correct on a lot of what you say, but this is a different world since the collapse in '08.
Many people had degrees, worked their way up the ladder and all of a sudden were on the outside looking in.
Even if they weren't canned, their pay or hours were cut. Many had to take part time jobs just to make ends meet.
For every part time job these full time people take, that's less job opportunities for someone who isn't working.
You have millions of kids with degrees, but come out of school with a mountain of debt with no job for the degree
they studied for. They can't find anything else but a minimum wage fast food job.
For those who didn't go to school, just finding a job is a feat in itself. A foot in the door. If they work hard and jump
at opportunities, they could possibly work up to manager. But, lets look at the real picture. There aren't many
opportunities like that to move up.
Economy is so bad, people are working longer than ever. Why? Probably bad monetary decisions or financial losses
due to hospital bills or what ever.
My point is, it's not black and white out there, there are many shades of grey. Different circumstances, bad choices,
good choices. That's part of life. Learn from your choices and move on.Comment -

#195A prime example of our "FINE" work force. Just one. Is the US Postal Service.
Can't get any easier for a decent paying job with bennies. Can pull in $25,000 plus JUST IN OVER TIME. The turnover rate in that gig is phenomenal. They will hire anyone yet can't keep anybody. The work is too hard. The work is outside in the elements. Gotta deal with the public. Gotta read addresses. Gotta walk. Gotta wake up on time. I guess that doesn't bode well for those constantly suffering from "asthma".Comment -

#197McDonald's shut down a restaurant near its headquarters Wednesday after the area was swamped by hundreds of protesters calling for pay of $15 an hour and a union.
The restaurant was closed because of traffic concerns, said Heidi Barker Sa Shekhem, a spokeswoman for McDonald's. The company also told employees in a building targeted by protesters they should work from home, she said.
"We go to work everyday. We slave. We sweat for $8.25," said Dominique Mack, who works at a McDonald's restaurant at West Roosevelt Road and Harlem Avenue in Chicago. "That can't take care of our kids. We got a house. We got bills we need to pay. Like every other worker that goes to work, we would like to get paid like everybody else."

#198Yet today, I saw a Wal-mart commercial stating they are raising their employees wages. I wonder why?
Wal-mart has been getting a bad rap for years about not treating their employees right and it's hurting
sales.
As a monkey see, monkey do business world, you can bet the retail industry will follow suit. Good for
employees, good for America and most importantly good for Wal-mart.Comment -

#201Seattle is now at 11.00 a hour and will go up a dollar per hour on the first of each year till it reaches 15.00 for smaller employers, companies with 501 or more employes it goes up 2.00 per hour the next two years.
They are saying restaurants and such are going to have to raise prices 4-5% to keep up with the increase, the increase is slower for tipped employes but they will see 15.00 two years later than non tipped employes.
Seattle is already a expensive place to live and will just keep getting more expensive each and every year till 2017.Comment -

#207I'm shocked fast food workers don't understand that businesses aren't able to paying $15 an hr without laying off workers or jacking prices way up....absolutely shocked!
These people have low IQs, have never been in a college, and just want more money.
These people's cell phone, electric ,and cable providers should say a few dollars a day isn't enough for them and they want $15 per day. Let them see how jacking up prices would affect them and see if they still think its a good ideaComment -

because they are jealous that someone can make demands on a company for their own good. Or they like
cheap shit.
There's huge profits in the food industry, especially fast food. Been to a fast food restaurant? Notice how high
the prices are? That's before people protesting a higher wage. Food is high because beef prices are way up.
Companies have to raise prices to compensate. The same will be true when wages go up.Comment
