Flyers fired Peter Laviolette today and replaced him with Craig Berube. I want to take some time to address the issues with this hiring that will affect gambling on Flyers games.

As you may know, Peter Laviolette is an offense-oriented, attack style coach. His system revolved around the offense. He was all about the offense putting pressure on the defense to the point of the defense breaking down.

Things have certainly changed in Flyerville.

Craig Berube is the polar opposite of Peter Laviolette. In terms of style, these two could not be more different.

I watched Berube's whole career starting in 1986 as he developed into one of the most respected enforcers in the game. I then watched him as became a coach. First as an assistant, then as head coach of the Phantoms.

Craig Berube is about defense, defense, defense.

In his system, the defense is expected to generate the offense.

Which brings me to my point about why I brought this up in the first place.

I expect it's going to take the players a couple of months of practice to get his system down right. Maybe even 3 months or a little longer.

The Flyers are now in a transition and a drastic one at that.

This, simply put, is going to affect how one should gamble on Flyers games. Again, let me reiterate that it's probably going to take the players 2-4 months to completely adjust to Berube's system. Once they do, do not expect any more 7-5 games coming from the Flyers.

They are now going in the complete opposite direction where instead of open, free-flowing hockey, we are going to be seeing tons of defense with the game being played at a slowed-down pace.

To that end, gentlemen, I am not betting any Flyers games this season until well after the new year.
