Yeah, it's definitely high quality, high potency, but at one point there's got to be a limit on these numbers.

Genetics and environment can push the limits, but in the end there is only so much of the pre converted molecules to begin with, and that does place a limit on the THC levels.

For the vast majority, breaking 35% THC is pretty tough.

But the dry weight potency and things like it can a be a little funny.

Strong stuff nonetheless.

Not sure what the takeaway is here on how to be a more educated consumer. Does this cultivator deserve business or criticism for testing methodologies? I guess one can do everything you normally do when evaluating bud. I'm sure experienced users like you have no problem evaluating.

15% moisture content, 5% terpene content, 20% of the weight can be dried out on the high end, so theoretically you could boost the sample's THC by 1.25x (1/80%) by drying the sample before submitting to lab. A 39% THC bud can go to 49%. Ideally the test would show terpenes and moisture to get a more complete picture and rule out "doctoring".

I would take 25% THC sticky west coast alien labs anyday over the dried out 37% Cresco sativa from the midwest.

High THC % sells bud. Bud that is prepackaged nowadays, lots of times all you can go off of is harvest date, THC%, some goofy strain name with lineage, and cultivator. Wish consumers had more information to go off of.

Choices are good compared to people in illegal states who don't even know THC% or microbial content. Wish there as more variety. All the cultivars are fast flowering with high THC/CBD ratios, 10-30 to 1. Wish there were more exotic landrace strains that might take 100+ days to flower or lower yielding. Maybe once federal legalization and interstate sales happen we will more of see that.

Bud that is grown for bud smokers is often high thc%, but bud grown for hash can be lower THC% because there is no need to achieve a high THC% in bud form if the concentrate comes out potent. In that sense, hash strains can have more variety and not just highest thc%. But in another sense, strains grown for hash have to produce decent hash returns, so it eliminates a lot of strains that could just be sold as-is right off the plant in bud form. Every other hash strain is a GMO cross because that is a great washer.

Another benefit of concentrates are that the tests might be more accurate because the concentrate is homogenized before testing. Bud testing can test one frosty top in the corner of the room and then you can get some larf bud.

Once in college a kid was coming through to flip a 3.5, only it was 3.3. Blamed it on the guy he got it from and said "it's the nature of the business". That phrase stuck with me, "nature of the business".
