Actual sesnroy neurons do not have ACE2 receptor proteins, which is how SARS-CoV-2 gets into human cells.
But there are cells that support those neurons do have that receptor and can be attacked. The exact mechanism wasn't understood actually but the realized the olfactory nerves aren't in trouble and don't need to regrow. It's one reason sense of smell does come back so fast. It takes longer to regrow nerves.
They do think the inflammation from the infected supporting cells are causing the issues.
Insidious fukkin gotdamn kung motherfukkin flu.
Yeah, but with some people it more than “temporarily retards” the olfactory nerves
and it causes death of those cells and new ones grow and try to relay the messaging
the best they can . They talk about nerve regeneration and full sensory normal nerve connections
and the sensory response of the innervated area .... I think some peoples nerves get hit dif
than the regular viral or respiratory diseases we know of hit them , and where some people
have headaches for 8 months since .... some have lost smell and have zero taste or smell still
couldn’t smell gasoline , sulfates for gas leak to save their life or can’t taste a pan seared orange
with brown sugar poured on it and bite down and taste nothing . It’s hard to compare the afflictions
each is getting because of residual “long Covid” ... it’s just hitting the body strange couple months down
the road , or ongoing from day 1 of their sickness till months later still or worsening
I def see many people losing almost all of their olfactory senses if not better by 12 months

Here’s the nerves and sensory system involved
those olfactory nerves don’t have to grow much ,
even those small nerves can grow 1mm a day
that’s why if no improvement by 12 months then
you won’t get back more than 25% lifetime fast/smell , I think

Remember not to confuse the olfactory neurons themselves with support cells.
There is a difference and support cells will regenerate fast, within days. Yeah, some lose and may never get back the taste and smell but a breakthrough olfactory nerve infection as being the cause is highly, highly unlikely. There is simply a lack of virus entry proteins in the olfactory neurons, it helps keep COVID out of our brains for sure. Helps.
But either way, the role of the support cells are key here, not the olfactory neuron or bulb itself.
Be thankful, that means you don't automatically get a brain infection too, although some, very few, might, it's very rare.

Guess I’m confused
seems it hits olfactory neurons like bad viruses do
where there is days where you can’t taste French onion dip or smell a thing
but it seems Covid gives you a chance at NEVER regaining it back
that wasn’t much of a thing before Covid , getting flu or sinus infection
and not being able to taste or smell 6 months later;was unheard of

We are all scientists here ; especially medical science professionals
so we will get to the bottom of this , I gave myself the Delta Waves to sacrifice
for the Fly Me group , so I could let you know what it’s like to be taken to the edge
of life by Kung Flu ,only to come back more fired up and roided out than ever
ur welcome for my health sacrifice btw , to further our theories on Covid symptoms
and to provide a RARE first hand Covid survivors story

I hate when that happens.
No, I only have sensible cereals.
I have Raisin Bran (good for when you have to pinch out a porcupine or when you have to wrestle out a wrecking ball, or even pushing out a pineapple or two) I have Special K with real fruit, and 3/4 box of Grape Nuts.
Sadly, no Cap'n Crunch.
I miss the Cap'n, I gobbled that up as a little Nasher wee high to a grasshopper.

Notre Dame pinging here, they are slowly drifting to underdog territory. We are looking at -106 now, but I'm watching this line carefully.

My stacking percentages forecast has LA winning with 23 points to Vegas' 21 points. The non predictive public gauge shows LA winning 24-23. A variety of forecasts covering a spectrum of handicapping sophistication has this game with similar numbers as those.
There are some groups of market readers, along certain forecast that will trigger Chargers here at -3 and they are betting it, and there is pressure against the Raider moneyline, and the general public is not exactly sold on LAC yet, even if they did beat KC.
When it comes to that moneyline, some teams, when losing a few in a row, will garner mounting pressure to get that win and it will show up in the market. Other teams, like the Raiders, will garner mounting pressure to lose if they have won a few in a row. This will translate to LA moneyline bets not because they favor LA, but because those bettors seek a Vegas failure.
Over the short term some teams the public will support, others they will abandon, it becomes a different story long term with pressures waning as the market tires and then building again.
But don't let that distract you Gold, the UNDER is where the pros are right now.
With a variety of sharp line beating forecasts we are capturing a shit ton of numbers, stacking those percentages even further. Even with a 51.5 line we can get 51, 50, 48, 47, even with some small rounding we can get 44.
The stacking percentages forecast is 57-42-1 against the closing line over the last 100 plays and has won 115 out of the last 200 plays against the Total, a cool clean 57.5%
With these particular numbers captured the win percentage on the Total is even higher among the subset.
There is also evidence that the market has overestimated LA this season when it comes to scoring, even accounting for the noise of opponenets, and while that has lessened to a degree, there is evidence it is still happening.
When it comes to the Vegas, evidence shows they have been underestimated by the market, but to about 1/2 the degree that that LA has been overstimated.
Of course, the NFL is all about those reversals so, sucked into this play or not, we like the UNDER.
