The books can predict how the market place is going to play out, how that will affect gamblers and their decision making, how to set opening lines along in relation to other lines in the market place, how to move lines. Are all the lines set together so that a certain story plays out in the marketplace? I'd imagine that they are predicting how things unfold well in advance. How far in advance? The pros are making their selections based on discipline and strict parameters, the public does not. Are they flat betting? Or are they pressing their luck after the big win? Are their accounts low or high after some big wins? Just rambling with some thoughts
