Funny you should mention this.
Back in the day when I was in my teens and 20's I was an avid bowler, got it from my dad who was an excellent bowler himself.
I averaged mid to high 190's, good enough for some regional events, not good enough to compete with the touring national pros.

Gave it up though.
When I was averaging 196 that meant something, that was a legit 196 but what happened was bowling centers made lane conditions softer to increase scoring to get more mediocre bowlers involved. Soon regular 160 bowlers were averaging 180 + and it just made a mockery of the game.

The ABC (American Bowling Congress) would give out medals to any sanctioned bowler that threw a perfect 300 game.
(True story) one bowler after bowling his 12th prefect game was so annoyed on how easy the condition have become sent back his 300 medal.
