MLB is a marathon and the regular Joe doesn’t have the time anymore to devote six months to a season.

Very true but 40 years ago in the 70's and 80's we wouldn't even be having this conversation right now...MLB was very popular and loved by the majority of Americans...the all-star game was the mid-Summer classic that we couldn't wait for....players were loyal to teams and each team had a 4 man rotation for their starting pitching...there was no bullshit analytical metrics, pitch counts, and other useless garbage that managers and teams use today...and most starters pitched until they either got injured (which was rarely the case) or they started getting hammered and/or walking batters...and most relievers had to pitch the 8th and 9th innings in order to qualify for a save!...not this bullshit get one batter out and that's it...not only these aforementioned factors, but also greedy and unscrupulous money grubbing (both agents and players alike) and going on strike because of failed labor talks like 3 times in the last 30 years? all of this crap has led to the demise of major league baseball.
