Of course, I'm the only one in the world that realizes these guys are professionals and the of course Smith knows that it is a tie game. Everyone else thinks he doesn't know the score....lol.
He is doing his job and it is what it is.
But Smith gets a break. He's able to come out and say he's not stupid after all, and that he knew the game was tied, and that he thought someone would call a time out.
Oh, but don't tell the people that these are professionals and of course every player knew exactly what to do in every situation after that free throw.
Even so, the people can say he made a mistake, and that even if they discussed scenarios he could have messed up.
But alas, to them I say..."Why didn't JR Smith call timeout himself? Instead, he killed clock and 'created space and thought someone would call timeout.'"
I keep saying, it's not what they bring, it's how they bring it.
But please, don't spit my eye and tell me it's raining.
Smith has changed his story a couple of times. During the game, he appeared to tell LeBron he was thought they were leading.
In the video above, he says when he got the rebound he tried to create space for a shot and then saw LeBron and thought he would call timeout; so Smith stopped.
Two breaths later, he says he got the rebound and thought someone would call timeout.

There were 4.7 seconds left on the clock – 4.7 seconds away from an upset that nobody predicted in Game 1 of the 2018 NBA Finals. On the back of a miraculous performance by LeBron James, the Cleveland Cavaliers were tied with the Golden State Warriors at Oracle Arena, and George Hill was at the free-throw line with a shot to put them up by one.
The ball caromed off the front of the rim. It flew over the outstretched arms of Kevin Durantand into the arms of J.R. Smith. One would assume Smith would try for the quick putback. After all, nothing bad could come of that. A basket would put the Cavs up two with only a couple seconds remaining. A foul would put Smith, who is shooting 82.4 percent from the free-throw line this postseason, on the stripe. Worst comes to worst, Smith gets his shot blocked, and the game would go to overtime.
But then, inexplicably, Smith dribbled away from the hoop. He dribbled past the free-throw line, past the three-point line, like a kindergartener running the bases backwards. Near halfcourt he approached LeBron, who pointed frantically back to the hoop. It was inexplicable: He was going the wrong way. The clock ran out on regulation. Instead of stealing a road game against one of the great NBA dynasties of all time, this golden opportunity instead headed to overtime, and in that overtime the Warriors would roll.
But moments after the buzzer sounded on regulation, television cameras caught Smith talking to James. His palms were facing the sky, either in supplication or in apology. It didn't take an accomplished lip reader to figure what Smith was saying: "I thought we were ahead."
Smith thought the game was over when the game was actually tied.

First and foremost, he did his job. It could have been done other ways, but that was it.
Now, instead of going down in history as being a dumbass for "not knowing the score in such a clutch situation" he gets to go down for just not being aware of the play call. He says he thought the play was for "someone" to call timeout.
That's the story.
But even he couldn't get that story right. First it was "I was creating space for a shot and then looked at 'Bron' and then thought he would call a timeout. Then the game was over." (In his defense, "Bron" was calling a timeout, but it was, of course, too late).
Then it became the "I got a rebound and thought someone would call a timeout" before quickly moving on to Kevin D.
The reason two versions come out in one breath is that it's made up. It's a lie. When police have a guy in custody and he changes his story about what he believed or did at a certain time, it strongly indicates the guy is lying.
Under pressure of press interrogation, Smith folded and revealed his cards. When he first said "then the game was over" he forgot to mention that he made another pass to try to another player for an attempted last shot. That never even entered his story or explanation when "walking through the events."
Ok, so he was lying. So maybe one thinks he lied because he really was dumb enough to not know the score and really just needed a story.
If that were true, and it was really going to matter, OT would have gone differently. To some that's speculation, but the bottom line is JR Smith is lying about the events that occurred and if one wants to assume it's just because he "made a mistake" and doesn't want to go down as a dumbass then that's just what JR Smith would have you believe.
But I know that "Bron" is an excellent actor with facial expressions and that the lie goes deeper.

Mystics -7 over Aces but I haven't bought it yet because I'm going to tell you why it may be wrong...
I'm waiting to see what happens in the other games to get a feel for moneyflow and gamble on that angle but the thought is that the margin of victory should land between 7 and 12.
The market may be a bit oversold here as the line has dropped. The public does like the Las Vegas spread but seem to like the Washington moneyline.
Look, there aren't enough games for some of the more sophisticated modelers to start shaping some of this market so it is up to the public and and the analysts using year to year data. It seems like the market is selling Washington a little bit to some customers in a game that is already selling Las Vegas to others and that's dangerous for a Friday night favorite in a league like this.
That removal of pressure from Vegas puts Washington at risk and this is the last stop on a 3 game road trip down the west side of the us...Seattle, Phoenix, Vegas...for Washington.
Washington has been covering their spreads but I see it as a further set up to tonight and, in a sense, there is a due factor involved. But that factor includes what I said above, and not just being due to fail.
It's a risk but the underdog starts to look like the play. Then again, I can see Washington acing the spreads on the road trip, only to come home to fail, especially since they didn't win every game against the moneyline on this road trip.
So based on that search for market opportunity, I would say that stabbing at Washington to fail isn't a bad idea because if they don't, I think we have an opportunity to get them to fail in a couple of days.
That means, for those in mynutsacknutshell, that Las Vegas Aces +7 or no play at all.
Worried about vig or changing bet size? Then it might be best to pass. I have a way to sort of absorb the vig with small bet changes, and I mean small, but that requires 55% winners over the long haul.

Like I said, the market may be selling Washington and now we've seen a "sharp" move to -7.5.
Even though we identified the sharp side, I'm countering that move and taking Las Vegas Aces +7.5 (-105) over Washington Mystics.
Not only did I talk myself out of Washington, but I talked myself onto Las Vegas.
