Bad Beat in Live Pot Limit Omaha Hi-Lo
Eli Elezra, a high stakes reg in all formats of the game, was playing a high stakes cash game during the holidays. What he witnessed, a man who has seen it all, shocked him so much he had to post a photo for evidence on his Twitter feed.
The four-times World Series of Poker gold bracelet winner, couldn’t believe his eyes.
The game was Pot Limit Omaha Hi-Lo and the board showed 9s 3s 3d 2d.
Player one was holding Ad 3h 4d 5d and player two held Ac 2c 9c 9h.
The rules of the game, for those unfamiliar, dictate that the pot is split in two. A high half, and a low half.
Player two should win the high half more than 95% of the time with their full house, and player one currently has the best low hand, although player two could scoop - win both halves - if there is no low available on the first run out.
Both players feeling happy with the situation get the money in on the turn, and decide to run it twice.
This is where player two probably wishes he’d have stayed at home and eaten some more turkey sandwiches.
The river on the first run is the 6d, giving player one a straight flush and an unlikely scoop.
The second run sees the case trey land, giving player one quads and another scoop.
