The 51st running of the biggest, richest and most prestigious poker festival in the world is headlined by the $10,000 Main Event Championship, which will begin with three starting flights on July 1-3.
Players who survive either Day 1a or 1b will return for Day 2ab on July 4, while players who survive Day 1c will return for Day 2c on July 5.
The fields will combine on July 6 and the tournament is expected to reach a final table on July 10. Following an off day on July 11, the Main Event final table will be televised on ESPN/ESPN2 from July 12-14.
Return of the BIG 50
The WSOP has also announced the return of the BIG 50 No Limit Hold'em event, which will again occupy the opening weekend slot of the Series with four starting flights scheduled to begin on May 28. The signature event comes with a $500 buy-in, 50,000 starting chips and 50-minute levels.
Online $10K, Championship Leaderboard to Debut
Brand new to the 2020 WSOP will be a $10,000 online event, by far the largest the WSOP has hosted.
Other Event Minutiae
The revealed events of the 2020 schedule contain a mix of new and old.
One most obvious one is the change to the Tag Team event. Since the event's introduction in 2016, the schedule stated that teams could be comprised of between two and four players. This year that has been changed so that teams must consist of only two players.
Other changes include earlier starts in the BIG 50 and Seniors event (10 a.m. instead of 11 a.m.), later starts in the Casino Employees (3 p.m. instead of 11 a.m.) and The Closer (12 p.m. instead of 11 a.m.), and a change in the structure of the Crazy Eights.
In 2019, the tournament was played with 30-minute levels on Day 1s, and 60-minute levels from Day 2 onwards. This year that has been changed so that the levels from Day 2 onwards will be only 40 minutes.
All released dates, times and events are subject to change, with individual event online pre-registration not open until March/April, by which time all events will be determined and approved by regulators.
