Biggest cash game haul of my life last night
Had to share this, I'm a subpar cash game player at best and usually buyin anywhere from $200-400 at a 1/3 game where there's good action usually pots anywhere from $100 to 1k+. My previous personally record was buying in for $200 and cashing out $600 (usually I lose my buyin or make about about $100). Last night I went to this game pretty drunk and played a solid 5 hours. There was a new guy who was probably 80 years old w a gf in her 20s who literally just sat and watched his chips when he got up to piss. He was the worst player I've ever seen. He would straddle and restraddle $25-$50 almost every hand and then make ridiculous raises. I'm talking betting $500 preflop on a $50 pot almost every hand. Once he didn't straddle and bet $150 with just the blinds ($4) in the pot. Everyone was licking their chops and he bought in for $3500 (normal buyin $200-500 but occasional 1k) and lost it all in less than 30 min. I laughed at him once (was drunk, shouldn't have rocked the boat) when he called a $500 river bet when he was literally playing the board. After that he called my a punk so my drunkass was like I'll beat your ass if you call me that again so he did and then the guy who runs the game pulled me aside and told me to stfu or leave. So after that I just stayed quiet and doubled off him a couple more times along with the rest of the table. Final stats, bought in for $250 cashed out $2k

Indeed, unfortunately now those games/players are few and far between. I remember ~15 years ago when I started playing live, there were often whales like that + complete donators. Unfortunately never appreciated/took advantage of that when I had the chance! Nowadays great games like that are much harder to find - people have become more educated about poker in general + the extreme fish have mostly dried up/left the game.

yeah, i'd still consider myself a fish in the overall scheme of playing but I can have a good night every now and then. I just couldn't believe this guys dynamic, he wasn't playing lose for the rush hoping to suckout, he was just getting off by winning pots no matter the risk/reward. I had never seen someone like that

Glad you admit you were out of line, you must be a reg cause if I was game owner, that shit wouldnt fly. Whale dropping 3k in a $500 average buyin game in under an hour and you threaten him???! Trying to understand even an ounce of the logic there??? Congrats on the win.

Exactly. Phin, enjoy your $$, but lesson learned. When you're getting the best of it like that...u don't change a THING.

If anything u compliment him, or say "Tough beat" etc. Get HIS courage up. Watch Daniel Negreanu video, he keeps the game friendly + opponent is HAPPY to stack off his chips.

BTW, finding a true white WHALE...is rare. Weak stacks don't last too long. And if he has deep pockets that afford multiple re-loads, that's pretty rare.

PS, we need more stories about the young broad. If he's 80...and she's a dime in her 20s...think about HOW MUCH that guy must be worth. Were u playing vs one of the WALTON offspring?
Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?

I wouldn't call her a dime but she wasn't bad looking and yeah couldn't have been older than 25. And you're right I was being a drunk dumbass to talk shit back to him, the guy let me stay because I've played enough times there and knew I'd behave once he told me to
