    timothy su cracks pocket aces
what a sick hand with greenwood pocket aces no good against 910 suited

Sam Greenwood Eliminated in 45th Place ($211,945)

Timothy Su opened to 500,000 in the cutoff and Sam Greenwood made a large three-bet to 2,500,000 from the big blind. Su called and the two players saw a flop of QdJd4c
Greenwood led out for 1,800,000 and Su stuck around for the Js on the turn. Greenwood slid out another bet of 3,500,000 only to have Su shove all in. Greenwood put his hands on his head and stood up from his seat as he called off the last of his chips.
    Sam Greenwood:
    Timothy Su:

Greenwood held the best hand but Su had an open-ended straight draw for the largest pot in the tournament by far. The dealer burned and turned the Kc on the river and Su nailed his straight. Greenwood, one of the big stacks in the tournament was just eliminated.

I don't see this nearly as "sick" as many are making this hand out to be...yes it was bad luck to lose with AA deep in the main event but a flopped open ender will get there a fair % of the time...nothing really to see here in my view.

Did Greenwood then go on a rant like Joe Cool and complain about being donked again?

This hand seems pretty standard, not sick at all I agree with Jake. Only seems that way because of the huge stakes involved, not because of the actual hand.

As for the hand itself, seems like the opinions are quite varied from what I've seen. Some think both players played it perfectly, others dislike Su's turn shove. I guess I tend to favor the latter opinion a bit more as I don't think a shove there has quite enough fold equity overall to risk doing that. That said, you aren't going to make the Main Event Final Table without taking some fairly big risks somewhere along the line so maybe that's why he's there and I'm here!

The preflop call was a huge donk move, just hoping for that miracle flop. Greenwood raised big precisely to get value from the loose fish but as always the fish got lucky.

The turn push is just totally read-dependent so I can't really fault it. I wonder if he actually believed he could represent a J+ and get an overpair to fold or just didn't believe he had it. I'm honestly guessing that he "put him on AK."

As for preflop, I don't know exactly what stacks were, but I'm like 99% sure they were not deep enough to justify calling that massive 3bet with T9s. If Greenwood had made a standard-sized 3bet it'd be a different story

su had a ton of chips, he has really tightened up since he lost all those chips and is one of the shorter stacks

Well, Su shoved on the turn vs. a 3.5m bet. Unless you're trying to tell me he shoved like 40m+ facing 3.5, he was probably not deep enough to call 2.5m pre with T high. It's a pure price-you-out overbet, so suited connectors go out the window because the implied odds aren't there

Edit: Like it's possible Su just thought Greenwood would never make such a large 3bet that screams please fold with AA/KK so just decided he could outplay what would often be AK or other big cards most of the time in position. I could kinda see that. Evidently he was wrong, but fortune favors the fish--I mean the bold.
