They must raise taxes and a decent amount..... we fell for and voted for the shit head two party system for all these years and now we gotta pay for trading back and forth between two groups of crooks. One hooked up all their pals in corporations and attacked the middle east, the other gave it all away to poor, lazy and old folk while growing the government machine. Lets just tear the focking bandaide off and get this shit over with. The quicker we pay down our debt the less we will pay in interest long term. The deal should have agreed in balanced budget amendment in exchange for decent size temporary tax increases. Too busy politicing to try to actually save the country. I am probably the least tax friendly guy you could ever meet and even I see and know what must be done. Pay down debt now while making cuts with higher "revenue" aka taxes and making sure we never get to this point again.
Nobody wants it or to admit it but to get out of debt

#2I would charge everyone coming across the border $5 per day and $10 by boat or plane (for non-Americans).
I would get rid of this corporate tax crap in which our American companies are headquartered in foreign countries and not paying income tax.
I agree - we need to increase taxes - but push as much as we can to other countries.
I would get sending Pakistan, Korea, Russia, Japan, and just about all the other 3rd world countries that bad mouth us all their foreign aid.Comment -

I would legalize gambling, prostitution, and marijuana....that would bring in some tax $...
I would tax alcohol and smoking with heavier taxes...
This crap isnt so hard if you must make these tough decisions that Detroit wouldn't make years ago with all their bullshit union dues - come on, over $80 an hour for unskilled labor !!!Comment -

#4TONS of illegals getting a free ride also, need to find a way to collect from them...... some type of amnesty deal but cost xxxxx amount of dollars to "buy" amnesty/citizenship... get creative. These people are here anyhow might as well be collecting from them. Plenty of ways to tax without touching income directly. Sin taxes up additional fees and then a moderate income tax. Income tax increases temporary and other "sin" or choice taxes stay a bit more long term to get us back on track.Comment -

Other fee's that people who fly into and out of the US pay .. include ...
7.5% of ticket price (Passenger Ticket Tax) for domestic flights .. international departure and arrival taxes of $16+ each .. believe it or not each passenger also pays a "September 11th security fee" of $2.50 each to pay for extra security ... then of course there is aviation fuel taxes etc etc etc .. you get the idea ...Comment -

#16You are right about the 911 tax for phone cards, they may be that way EI but they don't need to be that way. Do you see another reasonable way out? Just making cuts is not going to be even close to enough, not even deep cuts. When a citizen can't make the rent they usually need to get a second job for more income, rarely will they make it just by eating ramen noodles every night. This is the same thing, we need a "second job" or more income. If it can be done another way please show me how as this is painful to think but considering the government really has no value or ability to earn where else will it come from.Comment -

Liberals claim that but lets be honest my man, I cash my check at the "tienda" on Friday and I think we both know about the line of vatos sending 50% of their off the books funds overseas to their families in salvador, guatemala, mexico etc. I also have spent many a day in county lockup and see the massive amounts of detainees. In my county they run everyones prints to check for legal status and when you come back illegal even if you were arrested for jay walking beef you sit their for 6months- a year eating up state and federal funds until ICE picks your ass up. About 50% of inmates in VA area right now are illegal hispanics either on ICE detainers or criminal convictions. Then lets not even start on the school systems. Like I said they are here anyways so let um stay but they don't get a free ride. You gotta pay to play my man, get money and get them in the system. Maybe 20-40 cents on the dollar goes back into legitamate US biz and economy. I am out there in the "real world" and see the reality, won't fall for the silly idea that the cash comes back to our economy in full or anywhere near it.Comment -

#19I say fuk the debt. I tell China, Japan, UK and the rest of the to go fuk themselves. I tell the Federal Reserve to fuk themselves. I tell the poor to get another job and the lazy to find one. I tell the corporations that pay no tax that they are now going to. I close the bases and end the wars. That's why I like Ron Paul so much because he would do all these common sense things.Comment -

#23E H, and they are just going to let us walk on them? In theory that works but when WW III hits and your family is dead in the street when you could have just paid some extra tax $ you would feel realllllll dumb.
See no other viable options even suggested, it seems we all know what must be done but the politicians don't have the balls to make it happenComment -

That's 775 Million bucks a month, we'd be out of debt quick
But as long as the gov balanced the books id be 100% ok with itComment -

#26Shit, make it $20 or $50 but on a strictly temporary basis, tax those currently not paying tax as well.... All new funds must go towards paying down debt no new projects and cut fat already in budget. Then at the end set taxes to a lower rate than before this all started as they will have to have a balanced budget and will have already trimmed the fat and can live tighter. We just need to get out of the hole as quickly as possible. The worst thing for the economy is UNCERTAINTY, once tough decisions are made and in place people conform and find ways to adapt and improve. This doom and gloom shit on the news for months and years at a time is hurting everyone in the economy more than $25 a paycheck would....Comment -

#28Why does it always have to be a race thing? No response to the facts I mentioned above..... I have no problem being out in the hispanic community, have worked with them, been incarcerated with them, and do biz in some of their shops. As I said I have no problem if they want to be here seek the dream and play by the rules but do have a problem with leaching as much out of the economy as possible and funneling it down to central america. And of course it is not just hispanics.... I work with a heavy middle eastern group at my current job. Middle easterners work in limo/transport similar to hispanics in construction manual labor. They also funnel huge amounts of money out of the country to family and although they are naturalized or at least have work pemits they are the BIGGEST tax cheats I have ever seen. They all work contractor jobs only and use shady accountants who cook the books where they make 80-100k a year and pay a few thousand in tax while funneling cash overseas the whole time. Like I said you want to play you gotta pay. I can't go to a baseball game or disney world and walk through the gates free have my fun and go home when I am sick of using what they have to offer.........Comment -

Canada taxes far more than America would need to to get back on track. Time to bite the bullet and be responsible. Obama needs to man up and lay down the law if he wants to live up to his hype. Time to play hardball. Both parties rather see the other fail than to see America succeed. For a long time I thought they wanted the best for America they just had different ideas how to get there, now it is clear they care for nothing more than their ridiculous "game" of politics.

Shit, don't get me wrong brother corporations are not a damn bit better. They are some of the biggest "leaches" on America period. They funnel wayyyy more money out than the illegals do and tamper with the whole system so long as it suites their interests. As I stated they clearly need to take a hit as well, alot harder to get to them though. Extremely strong lobbies, friends and shit even paid hitters.Comment -

They should get a simple, no loophole 10-15% tax just for doing business in America. Cheaper than almost any country's corporate tax rate, and has minimal effect on consumersComment
