Steve Wynn sells license for Macau casino for almost a BILLION.
Wynn Stock Soars on Sale of Macau License
    From the Associated Press

    March 7, 2006

Steve Wynn's gamble on the Chinese enclave of Macau is paying. Shares in his casino company shot up 12% on Monday after he announced a $900-million sale of casino rights to Australian firm Publishing & Broadcasting.

The price of the gambling license, the last one available in Macau until 2009, far overshot analyst expectations and would go a long way toward financing the $1.2-billion Wynn Macau resort set to open Sept. 5, analysts said.

Shares in Wynn Resorts Ltd. jumped $7.83 to $72.24.

"We are stunned by the $900-million number," Prudential Equity Group analyst William Lerner wrote in a research note. Lerner said he had expected a price of $350 million to $500 million.

The deal allows the Australian company to own and operate hotel casino resorts in Macau. Analyst Steven Wieczynski of Stifel, Nicolaus Capital Markets said the sale would allow Wynn Resorts to remove a huge chunk of debt from its balance sheet.

"He's basically getting a casino in Macau for free," Wieczynski said.

Macau, which reverted to Chinese rule in 1999, became known as Asia's Las Vegas after authorities lifted a decades-old casino monopoly held by mogul Stanley Ho in 2002. The government has granted a limited number of gambling concessions, including licensing two other U.S.-based companies, MGM Mirage Inc. and Las Vegas Sands Corp.

The former Portuguese colony's proximity to billions of potential Hong Kong and mainland Chinese gamblers has made it a Wall Street darling.

MGM shares rose $1.32, or 3.5%, to $39.51 and Las Vegas Sands surged $3.18, or 5.9%, to $56.63.

The sale does not affect Wynn's plans to open casinos of its own in Macau, but prevents Las Vegas rival Harrah's Entertainment Inc., the world's largest casino operator, from breaking into the Macau gambling market any time soon without a partner.

Harrah's shares edged up 41 cents to $71.64.

General Motors Corp. may join the list of victims of the surge in sub-prime mortgage defaults.

If you think Las Vegas is crazy, then you haven't seen anything yet outside of Las vegas.

Macaus(East las vegas), will passing Las Vegas as the #1 gambling revenue earned in a year or two. It's located near Hong Kong, and costal area of China, it's probably the richest continent in China, so think about it, with 1.3 billion people, and booming economy of China, and the culture of crazy Chinese gambler, and Macau is the only legal place to gamble in China, you can imagine how crazy it is.

So the past summer, I went to China and have couple chance to visit and played at Macau, Man, talked about crazy and agressive gambler, this is the place full of big and crazy gambler, over 98% of them are Chinese. Most of them like to played Baccarat, minimum is 500 HK dollars, and maximum is 400K HK dollars, of course, if you go to the VIP room, and people bet millions of dollars, man...........You gota go see it to believe it.

And I read somewhere that they're planing to invest over 7 billions in the next few years to build more hotel and casinos................................. ..............

Yeah, at first, I played blackjack, but it seems that it's harder to win than it is here in the U.S, and it's not as popular, as much fun, than playing baccarat, so after that, I played baccarat most of the time, and sometime, I also played dice(It's a game where there's over a 100 bet options, but I mainly bet on small or big).

And yeah, I played at sands in Macau. At midnight, the place is packed with people, and the table is packed too, with people screaming for the cards, and stuff like that, it's really has that excitment and high of gambling, of course, they bet BIG BIG BIG, and for me, I bet the minimum amount, and still think it's too much for me. The min is almost U.S $50 a hand.........When I was there the passed summer, I saw a lot of new big casino is being builded, oh did I forgot to mention that the placed has almost 400 tables.

BTW, from the article that you posted: "would go a long way toward financing the $1.2-billion Wynn Macau resort set to open Sept. 5, analysts said".

I'm really interesting to check this out, I could imagine this would be much better than sands in Macau.

I totally agreed. People go to Las Vegas to have fun and be entertain, and they also expected to lose a small fortune.

But in Macau, it's different, people drink tea instead of beer to concentrate, and they don't go there just for fun, they go there to live or die...................hahaha............ ..............I could see that most them there are businese owner in HK, or mainland China.

I hardly seen any people playing slots, there're some, but not a lot, you could probably imagine it without I telling you....Slots is for fun, and there're there to battle, so no fun at all........well not really truth, they have a lot of fun if they win............but not when they're losing.

I remembered Forbes has a nice 3 page long about the booming businese in Macau since the Chinese government took over, and stop the mafia and gang in the street, and started to let outsider to invest in.

I wish the casinos here would get rid of all their slots and add more table games. I would love to visit there someday. It sounds like a blast.

I didn't make this up, or put any hype onto it, I post what I know, and what I saw when I was there.

Just think about this, a fricking BILLION dollar just for a license, yes, a BILLION dollar JUST for a license, you can imagine how it is, and how much profit they're earning.

I wish they would take out their slots as well. But that will never happen. Most of casino's revenue comes from slots. Macau sounds like a blast!
