what? white gold isn't actual gold? i thought it had 58.3% real gold but was alloyed with various white metals thus giving it the white color. Seems like its worth a decent amount if legitimate. I don't see how it could only be worth $15 bucks if it is retailing for $1200

It all depends on the weight. A 6mm white gold chain is much more heavier than a 3mm one. That's why I asked him what size it was. And white gold is more expensive than yellow gold.

I won a Gold Movado in a poker game and got 300.00 at a jeweler. for a 1500 watch. a M&M Gold 2 tone Movado.
Watches are universal. A 30 inch chain is something I would wear but it has a niche. Have to take off money because it isn't the most popular style. It isn't fully Gold. IDK. If I had to guess without kniowing weight I'm starting to think 175-300.00 range. It is probably worth more to you than to sell.

A 14K gold 30" chain isn't going to be worth more than 50-100 bucks if you find a chump. Any Pawn shop/jeweler won't give you more than 35 for it most likely.

With a small file, make a scratch in an inconspicuous spot. While wearing rubber gloves, use a wooden, glass or plastic stick to apply a drop of nitric acid to the filed spot. Observe the reaction. When done, rinse everything well in running water.
If there is no reaction, it's gold. If there's a bright green reaction, it's base metal. If there's green in the scratch, it's a gold layer over base metal (goldplate). If there's a milky reaction in the scratch, it's a gold layer over silver.

Use a piece of unglazed ceramic material. Rub the gold against it. Fool's gold will leave a black streak, and real gold will leave a golden streak.

look at the clasp and it will tell you the karat... if its made in china its probably fake cuz most real stuff will be made in italy.. put a magnet to it, if its magnatized its not gold.... depends on weight for amount but could get around 200 for mid weight

good post..be careful though-even if stamped it may not be real..If you buy it..tell him you need to have it for an hour to have a friend look at it..then run to the pawn shop and ask that crooked sob how much he would lend you on it..then you will know if the bitch is real or not

does it feel heavy, for it's size ?

if so it is likely Gold or lead, maybe gold-plated lead if a scam.

A test scratch would help.

If real it is worth much more than $30.

don't trust a stamp saying it is 14 karat, easily faked.

It could be HOT, but stuff cools off. get the weight ( in grams or pennyweights) and I'll quote you what a fair dealer would pay.....not me, I don't buy !

The chain, 1/4" * 30" would probably be weighing around 150 minimum, 14 karats white gold per gram here in CR cost you around 15 bucks and therefore that makes it a total of $2250, since you guys get gold much more expensive than what we get it down here my guess is that per gram it'll add a couple bucks at least, making the grand total $2550

14 karat gold should be 58.5 % pure no matter what it is alloyed with.
