WRONG thing to ask. You are not ready to quit yet. You should not be worried about winning right now. If you decided to keep gambling, your sole goal at this point should be to do so without blowing up. After you master this (may take several months), then and only then should you focus on winning.
Guys I might be done gambling.

Getting him back in the game is not going to help him at all. If everyone wanted to donate and hook him up with some sessions with a therapist who we pre-paid, I'd be more than up for that. But not this. Sorry to those of you who don't understand where I'm coming from but he's laying it out on the line here and being very honest about all of his troubles, not just gambling. I'm the most chronic gambler there is, but when someone is clearly asking for our help to get out, why not support him?Comment -

#110your right, if i ever start playing again, my only concern should be following a proper br management. Who cares about even capping the games, before i should even worry about that i should prove i have the money management skills to survive.

#112I'm not always so nice. Told some guy I was going to report his ass until he was banned if he went into LB's thread talking trash again.
But this is really making me sad. Just hope it all works out for you OMG whichever way is the best for you. The fact that you're being so open and asking questions about how to go about helping yourself, really makes me think that you'll be ok in the long run.Comment -

If you believe you have a 60% play, obviously you should make a larger wager than if you only believe you have a slight edge with a 55% play.
You have any links to where its explained fully? Nvm I will google it.Comment -

All things being equal
You give a gambler more money or release them from their debt they immediately are elated. More drugs for the drug addict tend to do the same but not nearly with such an effect. Most alcoholics face legal/physical consequences but rarely do they drop as hard as gambler....rarely do they stop because they are broke. The key to self help is the process. By going to group you're doing the exact opposite of why most choose to gamble, drink, drug irresponsibly....from a "me" to a "us" perspective. Life is about "us".

when you first show up depending on the area some total stranger may hug you
just roll with it
then they will have 4 or 5 paragraph readings which they may ask you to read one
if you don't feel comfortable, just say no thanks i don't feel like reading
they will ask if there are any new comers and may or may not give you a key chain and a phone list which know one ever use but accept them in the spirit given
they will than go around the room and everyone will introduce them selves as hi my name is name is ***** and I am an addict
you don't have to say anything when its your turn or you can just say your name or you can follow what everyone else is doing
than depending on what sort of meeting it is half will be devoted to a speaker or a reading from the blue book than people will share
just listen and try to identity with what the person is feeling, not what drugs/booze they did it where you ended up that you want to try and identify with
and if you feel the need put your hand up
BUT KNOW ONE WILL EVER MAKE YOU SAY ANYTHING OR EVEN SPEAK A WORD IF YOU DON'T WANT TOComment -

#125kelly criterion is a good baseline to follow, i thought it would be a bit more conservative...
from wikipedia...
The Kelly property appears "in the long run" (that is, it is an asymptotic property). To a person, it matters whether the property emerges over a small number or a large number of bets. It makes sense to consider not just the long run, but where losing a bet might leave one in the short and medium term as well. A related point is that Kelly assumes the only important thing is long-term wealth. Most people also care about the path to get there. Two people dying with the same amount of money need not have had equally happy lives. Kelly betting leads to highly volatile short-term outcomes which many people find unpleasant, even if they believe they will do well in the end.Comment -

#132i lost about 2,500k (most of my savings) on poker and SB. I get about 32-35 hours a week with a 13/hour job and I'm 18. My family doesn't know that my bank account is practicably empty until my next pay check. I actually thought about killing myself when my bank was empty, I don't know how many time I've smacked myself in the head and think "**** your so stupid and a gambleholic in denial". It's to the point where I think about my losses in everything I do, even at work. I hove about $500 left in my sportsbook account and trying to get even with all my losses. If I go bankrupt again I don't know what I would do.Comment -

I have only briefly thought about it and will not do it.(kill myself) It is not worth it. You might want to tell your family about your problem. Hopefully they will understand. Mine does not, but i have to get over this with or without them.Comment -

#140i know your pain, on the drive home from the casino, i have thought, would it really be so bad to veer off the road and have a 70 mph collision with that wall? Probably wouldn't feel a thing and I wouldn't have to worry about the stupid sh!t I have already done and probably will do in the future if i don't get my sh!t together. (trying to maintain some hope) What's SB? the superbowl? I have only briefly thought about it and will not do it.(kill myself) It is not worth it. You might want to tell your family about your problem. Hopefully they will understand. Mine does not, but i have to get over this with or without them.
Here's my story: My parents sent myself and 4 friends to Vegas for my 21st birthday. They gave me a credit card and told me to use it in case of emergency. Well, my emergency turned out to be that I lost $2k playing blackjack and I wanted that money back. I figured out how to access cash on the card and ended up getting close to 20k in advances from the Sands during the week. Obviously I could've just used that first advance to wipe out my blackjack loss, but I wanted to 'make it' back. Well, of course by the time I was at the airport on the way home, I couldn't even afford a Crossianwich from Burger King.
My parents kicked my ass. Not because of the dollar value, although that was awful as well, but because I had been an absolute jerk who had taken advantage of them. I worked 3 jobs in university to pay that money back, even though my parents were still covering my tuition and living fees. It took me 2 1/2 years, and at times I thought I would die from exhaustion, but I did it. Most people here will have a bad gambling story if they've been at this for long enough. The point is: they're still here to tell it. Please get help with all of this.Comment
