**colorado forced to revise covid death total DOWN 24%
due to people saying "no my brother/mother/wife did NOT die from covid"

if every state did this, the death total would equal a normal cold/flu/pneumonia season

keep in mind the TOTAL DEATHS in the usa in 2020 is about the same as every other year

keep in mind the TOTAL DEATHS in the usa in 2020 is about the same as every other year

It is interesting, and appears to be factual.

1/ But this is ONE state. We don't know how many other states have similarly been counting cases of death that were NOT actually attributed to COVID-19. We do know it has been speculated, yes. But the proof of this being widespread and significant is lacking.

                2/ Colorado is only 272 OVER-reported deaths (1150 total minus 878 proven) = 24% reduction.

3/ For the umpteenth time, the CDC stats reveal a mean average of
= 1,357 influenza deaths per week. (no mitigation to keep spread down)

4/ As I type this, the US reported death toll from Johns Hokins is 89,550. But the "high-active" portion of the COVID-19 season has been since April 01 (~5,000 alread)...which means, we have had 84,550 deaths just since April 01...For argument sake let's just make a really wild assumption and make blieve that *ALL* states are inadvertently over-reporting deaths by that same 24%. There is no basis in fact for assuming this for ALL 50 states of course, but we will here anyway...
That knocks the total down to 64,258 just since April 01.

5/ That's not quite 7 full weeks yet but we'll round it up to 7 weeks to make the numbers seem better FOR YOU. Thus, 64,258 deaths divided by 7 full weeks
                =9,180 COVID-19 deaths per week

6/ The comparison is 700% more COVID-19 vs. seasonal influenza

7/ The current COVID-19 death totals have been reported in other articles to be UNDERreported - due to deaths at home or at nursing-homes which do not make it to the hospital and therefore NOT tested to confirm COVID-19, as well as an "accepted assumption" that there was likely numerous hundreds perhaps thousands deaths attributed to flu/pneumonia or other causes - during January and February - before we even knew of a pandemic -- and therefore didn't or couldn't test those deaths for covid-19 and had to assume some other cause! I've shown links to this reports in other threads. So we can reasonably conlcude there was likely UNDERreported deaths but we have no idea how many. It is logical however.
Mind you, there are only 272 OVER-reported deaths from Colorado.

8/ Here's the point so many keep FORGETTING....Despite all the wailing & whining about the last 8 week lockdown (full mitigation) -- somehow ALL of FOX News and most Trump-supporters forget that the reason the COVID-19 death is only reported at almost 90k today is
*because* of the spread-suppressing effect of the very lockdown they are crying about!

Of course, we have no way of knowing just how many THOUSANDS more deaths would have occurred without a lockdown. It's speculation.
But logically it would be much higher! Waaaaaaayyyyy higher! Double? TRIPLE??
Hell, in NY - even with full lockdown the numbers are horrific!!!

Well for my logic-based argument here, I will assume at least DOUBLE the death toll had this highly infectious disease been allowed to FREELY spread just like any influenza season.

**And remember, this is NOT yet adding in the UNDERreported deaths!

Sooooo, 64,258 deaths X 2 because of NO lockdowns,
                = 128,516 true covid-19 deaths JUST SINCE APRIL 01.

Divide that by past 7 weeks,

                = 18,360 covid-19 deaths *PER WEEK* >> just since April 01.

Compared to 1,357 influenza deaths *per week*

While it is clear FOX News would NEVER print the logical math, and would most likely
contend that those two numbers are roughly EQUAL, I am confident that
"reasonable" NON-partisan people will understand how misleading it is to push
the proven false narrative that covid-19 is about the same as the seasonal flu...

WHO claims COVID-19 could be here for long time. In other words; just get used to it. Just one more thing to die from. We all have lives, so let's just get on with them.

Why are we comparing influenza to COVID-19? One has been around forever and one just arrived. We have a flu shot for influenza and nothing for COVID-19. Of course numbers won't be the same since we've had more experience with one than the other. Still no reason to take away everything that was fun

True numbers? As in 100% accurate?? Nah......not 100%. Too difficult.

Every stat related to anything this big is merely speculation, imo.
Hmmm...well, I wouldn't say "speculation" per se, since there is solid evidence of very high numbers of covid-19 deaths (though certainly not 100% accurate, you are right about that!) ...And the deaths of seasonal flu each year is also only a CDC estimate -- although fairly close given the year-to-year numbers being roughly similar on average.

My "speculation" above is based in evidence for at least the first 64,258+ who died from covid-19 in past 6 weeks and 4.5 days. It's rough, yes, but the point was to illustrate a contrast with seasonal flu numbers.
Covid-19 appears to be -- at the very least -- 700% worse than the flu and that's with a lockdown in place!
True, it is speculatioon to guess a number of deaths if we supposed there was NO lockdown to suppress the spread but we are all fairly intelligent so I am sure we can all agree the numbers would be much worse
                              without this 8 week lockdown.
However, that said, we are now beginning to open up and optimism is rising.
                              I'm all for it.

Just want to be clear, you're saying the total death count right now is about the same as the flu, with 85% of the population staying indoors. Is that correct?

Just recently read a piece from the Boston Globe, where the WHO says it's not likely going away. Given that bit, we know we just have to live with it. One more way to die is all it is.

Texas on Saturday reported its highest single-day increase in new COVID-19 infections as it continues to relax restrictions on businesses.
The Texas Department of State Health Services announced that 1,801 new people had been diagnosed with COVID-19 in the previous 24 hours. The Houston Chronicle reported on Saturday that the spike was due in part to a new outbreak in the Panhandle, with more than 700 cases reported in the city of Amarillo and attributed to meatpacking facilities in the region.
The Chronicle said that the number of new daily infections in Texas had been about 1,227 over the past week and that until Saturday the state had not seen a single-day increase larger than 1,500.
Gov. Greg Abbott said in a statement that he expected the number of new cases to continue to increase as the state plans to increase testing in "most high-risk areas: nursing homes, meatpacking plants and jails."
"That is exactly why I established Surge Response Teams," Abbott said. "By immediately deploying resources and supplies to these high risk areas, we will identify the positive cases, isolate the individuals and ensure any outbreak is quickly contained, which is the strategy being deployed in Amarillo."
Texas has also seen a spike in deaths. It reported 33 new deaths on Saturday, bringing the three-day total to 147 — the worst three-day span so far, according to the Chronicle. On Thursday it reported 58 deaths, its highest single-day death toll.
Abbott has relaxed restrictions forcing businesses to close to stem the spread of COVID-19. At the beginning of May, restaurants, malls, movie theaters, and stores were permitted to open at 25% capacity. On May 8, hair salons and barbershops could resume business.
Despite the increase in new cases, Abbott is expected to further relax restrictions on Monday, allowing gyms, offices, and nonessential manufacturing facilities to open.
Gyms can open at 25% capacity on Monday, though classes, locker rooms, and shower facilities will remain closed, according to The Dallas Morning News. Nonessential manufacturing can resume at 25% capacity. Office work can also resume, though with no more than five employees or 25% of the workforce, whichever is greater.
Abbott is also expected to announce on Monday whether restaurants, malls, theaters, and stores can shift from operating at 25% capacity to operating at 50% capacity, The Dallas Morning News reported.
While Texas has reported a high number of new cases, it has had a lower death toll than states like New York and California — something Abbott attributed to the availability of hospital beds in the state, the Chronicle said. As of Saturday, 1,791 people were hospitalized in Texas, which had over 17,000 available hospital beds.
Texas has reported about 47,00 COVID-19 cases and 1,305 deaths, according to the state's health department.

Texas has reported about 47,00 COVID-19 cases and 1,305 deaths, according to the state's health department.
this is great... testing a bunch of PEOPLE WITH NO SYMPTOMS and they come back positive... so either the test is totally worthless/flawed, or we already have mass exposure to this disease which isn't nearly as bad or deadly as we were told

keep in mind that these cases only hit record numbers when they test a large amount of people... if we're gonna care about 33 deaths in texas out of 29 million then we might as well close the swimming pools and ban people from walking on staircases

Mothers giving birth in NYC are all tested for COVID now, as of a month ago 50% positive for the antibodies.

That means, that if you were in hospice and had already been given a few weeks to live, and then you also were found to have COVID, that would be counted as a COVID death. It means, technically even if you died of clear alternative cause, but you had COVID at the same time, it’s still listed as a COVID death.”

When Coronavirus cases are “suspected,” they advise doctors that “it is acceptable to report COVID-19 on a death certificate.”
