Well that was quick.
Min cashed for $6100.
After losing a decent pot early w/ JJ, I was sitting with approx 30 BBs.
I got 3-bet preflop by an aggressive pro on the button that I have played with plenty in the past. I call with 99 to see a flop. Flop is kh 8h 2x. I check, he bets.. I call leaving me with 15 BBs. Turn is 4x. I check and he pushes all in. I tank for a while and read weakness all over him. I put him on AQ/AJ (possibly with hearts) or QQ/JJ. If he has aq/aj with hearts I’m approx 72% or so to win the hand (I had 9h). If he has QQ/JJ I’m dead. Either way, he didn’t want a call and it was obvious.
So I call with 99 and he is pissed when I call. Unfortunately he turns over JJ and I bust.
So I was 50% between him having aq/aj or QQ/JJ, which was good enough for me to make the call. Wasn’t leaving myself with 15 BBs. If I’m right than I have 60 BB and am in good position going forward.
Finished just a few away from the final table in the 1k six max last week for an ok payout and min cashed today. Can’t complain too much... Need to get over the hump when the wsop comes to down in March and take one of these things down.
Thanks for the good wishes

Good shit dlunc, tough break but cash positive beats negative every day. Hate when you can feel their weakness but they roll over a barely better hand. Curious why you’d call the flop and not pop him with only one over on the board? Unless you didn’t pick up on this weakness until the turn?

If my assessment was correct, why he would he turn JJ or QQ into a bluff there when I’m NEVER folding better? When I called on the flop I was still unsure (Kevin Saul, who was my opponent, makes that same bet every time in that position). His turn bet still doesn’t make sense to me.

nice run. dont think you can fold that turn after committing that much of your stack on that runout. as said could of easily of been a heart draw or str8 plus flush draw. gg man

I’ve played the last 5 wpt main events in AC and Maryland. Along with two 6-max 1k events. Have cashed in 5 of 7 for just under 50k. Unfortunately no large cashes yet.
You are right about playing small tournaments with quick blind levels and short stacks. That’s why I only play the big ones. With 60+ minute levels and 300bb starting stacks, talent rises to the top and there is money to be won if you put the time in and play it right.
