#8No surprise. Place was a dump when I was 21 almost 15 years ago.
Fewer the better anyway, outside of the whole huge empty building thing. Borgata, harrahs, caesars, and the trop are just fine.
Nugget too cause of the marina.Comment -

#12Ac has always been a dump, this isn't new. My pap took my friend and I when we were 18 and told us not to leave the boardwalk. But of course we had to for booze.
Honestly it's probably better now. The outlets take up most of the area around the casinos.Comment -

#14Sure it's part of a broader New Jersey problem but Icahn had to do what he had to do.
They wanted this to work but the labor union just wouldn't concede. I think plenty of the 3000 workers recognized the situation and were willing to concede in hopes of saving things.
The union as a whole not so much. Icahn was losing hundreds of millions and had a plan to avoid another 100 million dollar loss. They said no to the deal and now everyone walks.
He's a billionaire for a reason,I don't know the whole deal but I believe he did what he could in a tough situation, he had to get out.Comment -

#17that place was a shithole before the casinos and after. 1 block off the boardwalk is like camden, nj and has never changed; unless you mean prior to like 1960 or something.Originally posted by triplecrown333atlantic city is a shithole without the casinos , in 10 years it will be like baltimore..my favorite place in the 90s...Comment -

#26Because the corporations overcharge you on every little thing now. Who wants to drive there to get nickel and dimed to death? I went with a friend on a Monday night and they didn't even comp the room. $150 for a room when there was no one in the place after we played for 5 hours.Comment -

#27That's where it really went downhill. 10 or 15 years ago anyone could go play 7 or 8 hours and get a cheap room. I'd get half a dozen offers for free rooms every month thru Total Rewards, I could even get weekends. Just for playing 1/2 Hold em eight hours a week, maybe splash the craps table once in a while. Tons of fish at the card tables, get to a poker room around midnight and just wait for idiots to push with ace-high. Tournaments on Saturday night were over 120 guys, you'd see all the regulars every weekend. The Taj was a shithole but that poker room always had action. Once Philly opened their casinos along with Delaware, that was the first shot. If they legalized sports gambling it might have made a difference but it was probably too little too late anyway.Originally posted by BluehorseshoeBecause the corporations overcharge you on every little thing now.
