I have heard that “Chargeback” is a dirty word in the sports betting industry.
I understand how sportsbooks can be rightfully outraged if a cheating player loses his balance and charges back his credit card purchases to recover his deposit. I detest any player who does things to cheat the sportsbooks because I realize that this will make things tougher for the majority of players who are honest. I understand that sportsbook’s need to take measures to reduce chargebacks from cheating players, such as circulating a list a player names who have cheated the sportsbooks with chargebacks.
I have heard that a player should never ever threaten a ********** regardless of the circumstances or else there will be serious widespread actions taken against the player. I have been playing with offshore sportsbooks for many years and have never done a ********** so I do not know what these consequences might be.
However, I think there are some instances where a ********** would be appropriate. For example, I sent Blue Marlin sportsbook a deposit in 2003. A week later their website shut down and they went out of business and I got stiffed. I read that the owner of Blue Marlin had a drug problem and simply ran away with all the player balances to fuel his drug addiction. I do not think it would be wrong to do a ********** in this instance to recover my deposit amount that I got stiffed. Unfortunately, I made my deposit by Neteller so I had no recourse and was SOL. I also think there may be other instances where a player ********** is appropriate. For example, if a scamming sportsbook takes deposits but refuses to pay players, then I think it would be appropriate. Or if a sportsbook is seriously delinquent in meeting their commitment on a player withdrawal then it may be appropriate.
I do think a ********** should be the last alternative for a player and that the player should never consider a ********** simply because a sportsbook is a week late on a withdrawal request. But if the sportsbook is extremely late on a payout if may be appropriate. How late do you feel a payout should be for a ********** to be justified?
I would think it would be in the best interest of the player and the sports betting industry if some general rules were created to govern when it would be acceptable for a player to do a **********. I would think the good sportsbooks would benefit if general rules on chargebacks were created because they would likely not get into a situation where a ********** would be appropriate. The rules could be established based on a middle ground between player and sportsbook objectives. So the rules could possibly even reduce chargebacks from players that feel they have the right to do a ********** if a sportsbook is two days late on a payout. But players with legitimate disputes might gain an ability to get their money without consquences. The sportsbetting industry might gain some new players if the players knew they had protection against fraudulent sportsbooks. For example, I know some people refuse to play with offshore sportsbooks because they got stiffed, but they might reconsider playing again if they knew they had some recourse. I feel that a player should only be authorized to ********** the amount in his existing sportsbook balance and that the player should inform the sportsbook of a ********** so the book could deduct the money from his balance. I also feel that a ********** should be the last alternative and the sportsbook should be given every opportunity to pay the player before it would be appropriate.
I also do not think if is appropriate for a player to automatically have serious widespread actions taken against him if the player does a ********** in the instance where the rules I mentioned indicate the ********** would be appropriate. For example, if there is an honest player who gets into a situation where he is dealing with a scamming sportsbook, then I do not think the player should have his name blackballed throughout the whole sportsbetting industry if he does a ********** that is appropriate. Does anyone know someone who did a ********** for appropriate reasons? Were actions taken against the player?
I also wanted to mention that I think the majority of sportsbooks and players are ethical and do not try to cheat each other. So I don’t want people to get the idea that I think chargebacks should be a common practice whenever a dispute arises.
I would also like to better understand why a ********** or credit card reversal is never considered by a sportsbook. I was once dealing with a sportsbook that said they wanted to pay me but had processor problems. I had made multiple credit card deposits to the sportsbook and I asked them if they wanted to simply call the credit card company and tell the credit card company that they put through duplicate transactions in error and ask the credit card company to reverse one transaction. I thought this seemed like a good solution which would allow the sportsbook to cancel my existing withdrawal request and simply reverse one credit card transaction and deduct the amount from my balance. But the sportsbook seemed to get mad at me for even suggesting this even though I was not threatening that I would ********** but was simply asking them if they wanted to do a credit card reversal.
Any feedback would be appreciated.
