There are some interesting matchups tonight.

Garritt Cole makes his third start since coming off the IR, and he's been razor sharp.
NY faces Cleveland and Gavin Williams, that's no walk in the park. Williams has been downright filthy at times; the problem is consistency, but Williams has a live arm.

Walker Buehler (remember him) is up against it tonight. SD faces Cy Young candidate Christopher Sanchez.
It's good to see Buehler making good use of this second-chance opportunity.

Logan Webb makes his second start off of IR
Skeenes starts for Pitt; Mack Gore looks as if he'll meet the expectations the scouts put on him.

And the Prince of the Pacific Rim, Shohei Ohtani, is on the mound for the Dodgers.
Which begs the question, what's the bigger mismatch?

Ohtani vs. Zac Gallen, or Skeenes vs. Arrighetti.

    1:10 pm start
    Miami/Washington OVER 8 total runs

    Max Meyer starts for Miami
Meyer started the season strong; he's been inconsistent lately.
His last four starts were a stink bomb (vs. Mets), a gem, a gem, and a stink bomb.

Alvarez (LHP) starts (opens) for Washington.
    He's your garden-variety spot starter/long reliever dude.

Both starters are, to be fair, serviceable, and they can be hit.
Both lineups have sneaky pop and speed.

I'm thinking 6-4 (Nats) final, and I like this play

I've thought for years how funny it is so many teams choose a duck as their mascot.

Does not seem like an elite, graceful or hardass sort of animal to me.

That prop cashed in the sixth inning.

The sky's the limit for the phenom, but what concerns me is that flame-throwing power pitchers tend to blow their arms out within five years. If he stays healthy, Misiorowski is a future Hall of Famer.

    Yeah, he's that good.

Pitching prop I really like tonight.
Jacob Misiorowski (Milwaukee) OVER 7.5 strikeouts.

JM is the major league strikeout leader (70) across 44 innings.
The SO: IP ratio is 14.3 per 9 IP
40 percent of all recorded outs are via the punchout.

He also holds the record (statcast era) for velocity (103.4 MPH) and has cracked 103 MPH several times in a single game.

If you've never seen him pitch, trust me on this: he's a treat to watch.

    Masterpiece Theater continues.
Kyle Bradish is currently spinning a gem vs. the NY Yankees.

Six innings in, 0 runs, allowing just one hit, striking out seven.
He's approaching 100 pitches; there's no way he can finish what he started.

Back in the day of Marichall and Sandy Koufax, you were considered a lightweight if you didn't throw at least 7 full innings.

Is 2026 (to date) the MLB equivalent to Jerry Seinfeld's "Bizarro World"

The Mets (15-25) are the worst team in baseball.
There are five teams with a better (or same) record as the LA Dodgers.

How weak is the American League?

Take New York and Tampa Bay out of the equation, and there's only one team with a winning record (Sacramento Athletics) at 21-19, and the only two teams (besides TB and NY) have a positive +/- run differential. Detroit +4, Seattle +2

There are 30 starting pitchers with more strikeouts than Paul Skeenes, including some of these future Hall of Famers.
(minimum eight starts and 40 innings pitched)

    Jacob Misiorowski
    Nolan McClean
    Bryce Elder
    Davis Martin
    Taj Bradley
    Braxton Ashcraft
    Landon Roupp
    Parker Messick
    Emerson Hancock
    Chase Dollander

Full slate of MLB action tonight, all 30 teams are playing under the lights, and after breaking down those 15 games, tonight's card should be what us baseball analytical geeks call an MLB wet dream.

Of the aforementioned 30 teams, ten have implied run totals of five or more,
They are Baltimore, Kansas City, Seattle, Boston, Toronto, San Diego, Philly, Cincy, Cleveland, and the Marlins, yes, those Miami Darlings.

The only 'household name' starting pitcher that goes tonight is Chris Sale.
Max Freid and Dylan Cease are also scheduled to make a start, but I consider them familiar names, not 'household names.'
    Robbie Ray too, who h

The casual MLB fan might want to keep an eye on these kids, who have the potential to have solid careers.
Parker Messnick (Cleveland) is one of those lefties who kept me awake all night. The kid has a nasty arsenal.

Jacob Misiorowski (Brewers) has had his fastball measured at 104 MPH, on the slow radar gun.
The two most difficult pitches to hit (IMO) were any triple-digit flame throwers whose speedball had insane movement, and any LHP who has total command of the junk pitches, like Andy Messersmith (the pride of Toms River, and the Leiter boys as well), Mike Mussina, or Greg Maddux, even though those three threw right-handed, but you get my point.

The Pirates' other young gun, Carmen Miodzinski (It's Polish-American night at the ballpark, or so it seems, hey, I'm a proud Polish American myself)

Three other up-and-comers with a world of potential to keep an eye on.
McClean (NY Mets), Kris Bubic (KC Royals), and Connor Early (Boston)

    You like dingers?
These hamburgers should get lit up like a Christmas Tree.
Keider Montero (Detroit), Connor Preilipp (Minnesota), Jesse Scholtens (TB Rays ), and a few others.

Here's a dinger cheat sheet if one feels the need to wager a couple of sheckles on a tater prop or two.

Time to transition back into the MLB season, the NFL Draft is finished, and the NBA playoffs are about as compelling as watching paint dry.

Hard to believe the MLB season is 25 percent done this weekend.

Eovaldi spun a gem earlier; he handcuffed the Yankees, giving up 3hits in 8 innings, striking out eight.
The only blemish was that Eovaldi gave up a solo shot to Judge, but what pitcher hasn't?

And there's the KC Royals, who are driving me bat shit crazy, just when Cole Ragans looks like he's rounding into All-Star form, his triceps tighten up, and he has to be pulled after three innings.

Seth Lugo looks enticing later today, but I'm not sure if I want to lay the -142.

Boston Red Sox fire manager Alex Cora after 10-17 start to season

    SOURCE: The Athletic

Hours after the Boston Red Sox walloped the Baltimore Orioles 17-1, the team’s most lopsided win in an otherwise dreadful season, Alex Cora returned on Saturday night to the Four Seasons Hotel Baltimore. Awaiting him there, a league source told The Athletic, were principal owner John Henry, CEO Sam Kennedy and chief baseball officer Craig Breslow. They soon informed the manager that he had been fired, along with several members of his coaching staff.

Despite the team’s awful 10-17 start, the moves were swift and unexpected.

Around 6:30 p.m., as two members of the coaching staff headed out to dinner, they passed another team employee. The coaches told their colleague that they’d see each other again on Sunday. About 30 minutes later, both coaches were among those who were dismissed.

Triple-A Worcester manager Chad Tracy — son of former big-league manager Jim Tracy — will take over as Boston’s interim manager.

    Playing a total today, 4/24
    Tigers-Reds under 8.5

It's a nasty LHP (Framber) v. nasty LHP (Abbott) thing.

    Tigers-Reds under 8.5

The puppy wasn't barking yesterday, and Glasnow was magnificent.
SF gets one-hit, and my play is DOA from the first inning on.
Can't win them all. But I try.

    Stat of the day:
    -Jeff Passan

The walk rate in MLB is hovering around 10%, a historically high figure that represents a 16% spike in bases on balls since last season. It's a staggering number, higher than every season but three -- 1948, 1949, 1950 -- in MLB's century-and-a-half history. So what's happening? Certainly the automated ball-strike system, which has standardized the strike zone and taken away pitches previously called strikes, has something to do with it. Beyond the challenges themselves, everyone -- pitchers, hitters, umpires -- is adjusting to a new zone, and that's the sort of thing that changes behaviors.

Logan Webb as a +150 home dog vs. LA (Glasnow) is too tempting to resist.

SF (Webb) +150 is my value play of the day.

Well, spank my ass and call me Father Christmas, the Sacramento Athletics did your pal Nasher well last night.

On a four-game heater, looking for five, that flips the season record from 6-8 to 10-8 (+3.4*)

There's nothing I like in the early games, KC maybe, but not at -140 or whatever it is now. I don't force plays.
    Looking at the pm games.

It's a LHP vs. RH hitter thing.
    Mariners have trouble vs. LHP

Athletics +160 is my barking puppy of the week.
If A’s win the World Series, will they have the parade in Oakland, Sacramento or Vegas?

And ofc Miller was traded by the A’s. Has to be one of the most frustrating sports organization for a fan to root for.
