#144That bulge in temperature for Europe in the 12th to 14th centuries had a profound affect on the European culture and sped up the technological growth of the entire area. Is It Happening?
Yes. Earth is already showing many signs of worldwide climate change.
• Average temperatures have climbed 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit (0.8 degree Celsius) around the world since 1880, much of this in recent decades, according to NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies.
• The rate of warming is increasing. The 20th century's last two decades were the hottest in 400 years and possibly the warmest for several millennia, according to a number of climate studies. And the United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reports that 11 of the past 12 years are among the dozen warmest since 1850.
• The Arctic is feeling the effects the most. Average temperatures in Alaska, western Canada, and eastern Russia have risen at twice the global average, according to the multinational Arctic Climate Impact Assessment report compiled between 2000 and 2004.
• Arctic ice is rapidly disappearing, and the region may have its first completely ice-free summer by 2040 or earlier. Polar bears and indigenous cultures are already suffering from the sea-ice loss.
• Glaciers and mountain snows are rapidly melting—for example, Montana's Glacier National Park now has only 27 glaciers, versus 150 in 1910. In the Northern Hemisphere, thaws also come a week earlier in spring and freezes begin a week later.
• Coral reefs, which are highly sensitive to small changes in water temperature, suffered the worst bleaching—or die-off in response to stress—ever recorded in 1998, with some areas seeing bleach rates of 70 percent. Experts expect these sorts of events to increase in frequency and intensity in the next 50 years as sea temperatures rise.
• An upsurge in the amount of extreme weather events, such as wildfires, heat waves, and strong tropical storms, is also attributed in part to climate change by some experts.
Are Humans Causing It?

While we are sitting around choking on coal and fuel emissions, China has now jumped ahead as the number one producer of solar panels and wind turbines in the world. Way to go Yanks. We were in and are barely out of a long recession and because those who believe Sara Palin is a Messiah, we have now let a huge industry pass us by again. Interesting argument. I'm still on the fence in regards to climate change but I do respect your view.

#153Cap and trade or any version of that is simply a tax grab.
Europeans spend about $10 billion or so (USD equivalent) annually to subsidize fossil fuels. By contrast, the American oil and gas industry might receive anywhere between $15 billion and $35 billion a year in subsidies from taxpayers.
The exact number is slippery and hard to quantify, given the myriad of programs that can be broadly characterized as subsidies when it comes to fossil fuels. For instance, the U.S. government has generally propped the oil & gas industry up with:- Construction bonds at low interest rates or tax-free
- Research-and-development programs at low or no cost
- Assuming the legal risks of exploration and development in a company's stead
- Below-cost loans with lenient repayment conditions
- Income tax breaks, especially featuring obscure provisions in tax laws designed to receive little congressional oversight when they expire
- Sales tax breaks - taxes on petroleum products are lower than average sales tax rates for other goods
- Giving money to international financial institutions (the U.S. has given tens of billions of dollars to the World Bank and U.S. Export-Import Bank to encourage oil production internationally, according to Friends of the Earth)
- The U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve
- Construction and protection of the nation's highway system
- Allowing the industry to pollute - what would oil cost if the industry had to pay to protect its shipments, and clean up its spills? If the environmental impact of burning petroleum were considered a cost? Or if it were held responsible for the particulate matter in people's lungs, in liability similar to that being asserted in the tobacco industry?
- Relaxing the amount of royalties to be paid

#16520 years ago, global cooling was all the rage and scientists had all this evidence that the Earth is slowly entering into a new ice age.
Then these same scientists stumbled onto some evidence that the Earth may be warming and a bunch of environmental whack jobs decided to run with it and came up with the "Global Warming" push.
This year has seen some of the worst storms our country has ever seen extending all the way into March and that picture of the White House covered in a blizzard of snow really spoke volumes.
Since the left is tired of looking like absolute fools, they decided to cover all their bases by coming up with the term "CLIMATE CHANGE".Comment -

#169I have not studied this in depth. And I suppose that most people haven't. Yet the opinions on the matter seem very certain. That's not uncommon for opinions on matters that have not been researched.
The only possible answer I can come up with at this point is that I don't know. The next question is if mankind can afford to be wrong about the melting of the ice. If anything it would seem a terrible waste of fresh water into the salty seas. How much could the sea level rise? Perhaps the best way to find out is to let gamblers and traders take a crack at different odds. Just don't bet it at a book in the Caribbean.
I do understand that the weather is a dynamic system. So a serious imbalance towards a warming trend does not translate into an even pattern of warmer weather. If anything, a serious imbalance produces weather patterns that are out of balance. (I always think that people are joking when they interpret a cold winter as evidence against global warming. But then I realize they are actually serious.)Comment -

#171Garlic Toast is just another example of some Left Wing nut case who has no one to blame for the obvious flaws in the theory of Global Warming. Blaming Sarah Palin? Go away little boy. You and your gay little Al Gore lovers had your best shot and blew it because your evidence did not pass the truth test. Sarah Palin has nothing to do with this. If you people are such simpletons that you can allow a former governor of a small state control your future, you are worthless. I suggest suicide, but that option is up to you. Maybe if people like Garlic Toast can get their faces out of Al Gore's ass, they would see the obvious flaws in their arguments and do something to correct them.
Willie Bee has it right. All you Left Wingers do in here is cry. You can't change a thing. Even when you controlled the Senate with a fillibuster proof majority, you could not get anything done. The only thinkg you will accomplish in here is to prove to the readers just how uneducated, stubborn, and inaccurate Left Wingers really are.Comment -
