It will take a long time to test everyone. We are at 1% now. It will be years before even 50% are tested.
By then they should have some more interventions(like remdesivir)that should lower the death rate.
We're still in the first inning of an extra innings ball game.
Will it really take years? Over 36,000,000 people in the US have already been tested so far.

No way. 36 million tests does not mean 36 million people tested. Some are tested many times.

Still has to be 10's a millions of people that got tested. The same ones can't be going in for tests every day.

I can't find good numbers on this. Total guess maybe 15 million have been tested. But people who are positive end up getting tested many times for confirmation of positive and then to get to two negatives at the end. And then just think for example about Trump and people are around Trump. They've all been tested dozens of times. This is also why the positivity rate is suspect. I wish they had data just on first-time testers.
But if it's 15 million tested that means only 5% have been tested. And then of course if I was tested back in late March and was negative that really says nothing about whether or not I have covid now. It's not like if I test negative I am negative forever.

The # of tests is suspect not the positives. If you get two biopsies for cancer and both are positive you don't become "two cancer patients".
You did have two tests though, and how they record those is suspect.

How many of the 50,000 who have the virus in their body are actually sick though?

I’m reading the virus is not as strong when you get it that’s good news if it’s true
