That explains a lot.

Understand the Dow is useless and nobody who's worth a shit in the business is predicting the Dow.

Try again, only this time with the S&P. Run your own numbers, with all the bad news priced in, with all the terrible things in the world, like China, already priced in, the S&P has but a small drop left.

Then valuations become too cheap and things steady out.

Do it for any other comprehensive basket, you'll see.

But the Dow? Get real, the Dow is meaningless.

Agreed, some margin selling left out there but the valuations are getting to a point where institutional investing will come back, going to be an up and down ride.

There is profit to be made with that kind of volatility.

No after market tonight?

Futures have made a major comeback from Monday's after market. The Dow was down -200 & change, now it's down -40.

I think we are seeing mutual funds rebalancing more than tax selling and margin calls.

Something to really watch is the price of crude. 15% of the entire market is oil related. I absolutely expect oil to rise out of this low $40 range. I doubt there will be a stock rally on any day oil is down, for now.

The initial +262 faded to red and recovered on fairly brisk holiday volume.

The mystery X-factor, crude oil, had been hovering UP .40 but has taken a jump in the last hour and is now UP $1.80. That's a 4% move.

Even with rebalancing, tax sales and margin selling...even with all that pressure the market will move higher if oil can hold its gains.

A lot of bear arguments are trying to be made and the only ones that hold water are the technical definitions.

There are no signs in the actual economy that would confirm a true bear market, something mainstream media seems to keep missing.

It's a traders world right now and I am loving it.

The 'panic' is politically motivated.

There are no technical issues with US economy, debt is in line with late historical averages and rates are moderate. It's the confidence the consumer has going forward amid this non stop rhetoric that had traders on edge....would a Dem congress stall all the reform? The next leg of tax cuts?

I think maybe the idea of gridlock is good....WS might be viewing the shutdown as proof 2 more years of status qou....

As a fitness enthusiast anyone see both dinosaurs GNC and Vitashoppe gain like 10% today lol

The hedge funds took advantage of the Fed raising rates to short the market ahead of christmas to get bigger bonuses, the economy is fine, these people who think a big recession is coming because of market volatility know nothing. The economy remains strong.
