The expectations of each one is completely different. USC was ranked before the season started. They're trying to save the season. Jets management is just looking for anything positive with Ryan this year and then take it from there when his contract is up.

under kiffin, sc has been ranked #24 (2013) and #25 (2011), which are the lowest pre-season rankings at usc since 1961. kiffin and ryan were both on the hot seat after last season with their bosses itching to fire them. so they're more alike than not.

if jets lose their next 6, which is quite possible.... rex will be fired.

but rex will not take the sc job mid-season, no prominent coach would.
