Smart men and women get their kids in sports. It develops soo many skills that school alone doesn't such as social skills, health and fitness, and how to compete in a competive world without losing grace or class.

Soo many guys I know who only made average to slightly above average grades are killing it in the real world and I correlate their intense athletic background with their success.

Lots of great insight in here. I 100% agree with sports being an important part of kids overall growth.

I'm not at all a fan of giving everyone a trophy so no one feels left out. The big reason we chose the softball league she's in was because it was far and away the most competitive. Its the real deal. Her team is damn good. 9-0 for the year and just totally blowing out these other kids. Fukk all that nonsense of not keeping score. Like I told my kid, if that was the case, why do we have a scoreboard? I bought here a t-shirt that says "Winning Builds Character Too", and I absolutely believe that.

Like the great Reese Bobby said....if you ain't first, you're last.

My daughter is in the Special Olympics in 2 weeks and I am equally as proud of her as Opie is of his daughter. Sure, she'll never go to college on a scholarship or become president but it will be great to see her compete and have tons of fun with her peers. She has won races at her school when they have "track and field days" and she is a fast sprinter...she has long legs for a 9 year old. Wish us lucK!!

Way to go Opie for taking the time with your daughter, these days will never return.

I played little league baseball. Some considered me the great bambino of our league, use to ride the bench eating hot dogs and coke, get up to bat crank a homer, jog around the bases and pimp walk from 3rd to home. i was a pretty big deal. Then in 4th grade i had a devastating career ending injury when i stubbed my toe rounding second.

Good luck pal. My oldest son just turned 9 last month. I coach his football team and this Saturday we have a "win and we're in" (the playoffs) game. He's so excited........we've been in the backyard practicing his "moves" and routes all week. Nothing better.

I saw that video of your girl hitting machine pitches. She has some real serious talent. Hand/eye at that age like that?? You can't teach that.

Get her to keep that shoulder under the chin until that front foot plants and you got a future Olympian.

Seriously Tex that fukkin hand to eye co-ordination was sick.
