1. Some games where the money line wins with an (A) bet, the ATS model will have lost. This means that you need to look at the entire 4-game series.
2. The ATS model may have additional losses, especially if the (D) bet is a favorite, and was originally a moneyline wager.

2. The ATS model may have additional losses, especially if the (D) bet is a favorite, and was originally a moneyline wager.

This is right. Losing on an (A) bet had you bet on the spread instead of M/L is not the end of the world BUT if that happens on a (D) bet or even the (C) bet then you're in a world of hurt. Favorites winning but not covering the spread is very common.

That's the reason why I do what I do which is to risk 1 unit for heavier moneylines instead of play to win 1 unit. I basically cap my loses if the 4-game series goes down the toilet.

This is what I do with moneylines that are larger than roughly -150. For the (A) bet I just risk 1 unit and win whatever amount instead of playing to win 1 unit. For subsequent bets I risk the amount that's roughly equal to what I am supposed to risk for a point spread play. I'll win a bit less, may even lose money on a series but I know I won't lose more than 18-19 units if the moneyline series loses. So I treat it like a 4-game point spread series loss while playing the intended moneylines instead of a heavy moneyline series loss in exchange for smaller profits. I'll live with the negative profits if that's the way it ends up.

Happy new year to skyscrapers and those who follow. FWIW I did a backtest on the same system but playing spread instead of ML and yielded the following:

2025: 35
2024: 30.65
2023: 37.17
2022: 18.67
2021: -27.63
Definitely looks like a reduction in variance with similar unit outcomes. I just can't stomach the large ML plays as the potential losses are uncapped. Hope this helps!

I know....I logged in and it was Utah 48 and Det 19 in the 1stQ!?!? I've missed out on some A bet wins but I like my new approach. When it works out I sometimes get 2 wins on 1 series if my live bet covers that A bet but it is a loss on the closing line. I bet it again on the B bet. Recently happened with Portland.

Yeh double-dipping!! Rarely happens though but it feels good when it does!!
