            Thank you Alex for everything.
            Class act.

Royals outfielder Alex Gordon, the former first-round pick whose roller-coaster career took him from near bust to All-Star and Gold Glove winner, announced Thursday he will retire after the season.

No, they are not out but things are really really interesting now.
                  Really interesting.

                  There are 30 teams.
                  12 teams are eliminated.
16 teams make the post season.
12 of those 16 spots are claimed.
4 spots are still up for grabs.

This chart does not represent tonight's games.
I'll update it now a little bit.

SF loses, they go to 28 ad 28 hurting their chances but still have a good shot.
Houston wins, they go to 29 and 28 and are pretty much clinched now.
Reds are idle but it'll take a miracle even at 29 and 28 now not to make it in.
Phillies same as the Reds, they were idle too but they are 28 and 29
Marlins look like lhey'll hold on and win tonight, they'll snag a WC berth.

The big game tonight was the Card/Brews game.
Cards won, they go to 28 and 26 and jump SF for the moment.
Brews now are pretty much done now they are 27 and 29.

THESE WERE THE STANDINGS BEFORE TONIGHT'S GAMES

I excluded from the list all teams that are eliminated.
I'll update this later this afternoon, but at first glance now it looks like SF will be the 16th and last team in going into this final weekend.
That's the way it looks to me now.

No thankfully the Brewers lost to the Cards tonight so the Giants are now hanging onto the 8th and final spot heading into their final 4 games with San Diego.

The Cardinals have placed right-hander Carlos Martinez on the 10-day injured list with a left oblique strain and recalled righty Johan Oviedo, per a team announcement.
With oblique injuries often leading to weeks-long absences, this figures to end the season for Martinez, who has logged all five of his 2020 appearances out of the Cardinals’ rotation after working from their bullpen a year ago.
While Martinez was a high-end starter earlier in his career, opposing offenses have smashed the 29-year-old for a 9.90 ERA/6.88 FIP in 20 innings this season. Martinez has easily posted career-worst strikeout and walk rates along the way, having logged 7.65 K/9 and 4.65 BB/9, respectively. And Martinez has averaged under 93 mph on his fastball – far below the 95-96 mean he has typically recorded.
The Cardinals, who are 27-26, do have their next five starters lined up, with Kwang Hyun Kim, Jack Flaherty, Daniel Ponce de Leon, Adam Wainwright and Austin Gomber scheduled to take the mound in their upcoming matchups. Regardless of how their season ends, though, the Cardinals will owe Martinez $11.5MM in 2021. That would have looked like a bargain price not long ago, but that’s not the case with the way he has performed this year.

                          Here's your NL postseason update.

Braves, Dodgers, Cubs. All division winners.
                          They're in as such.

Five wild card teams get in.
Padres have one of those spots locked up.

Of the remaining four spots up for grabs, six teams have a *mathematical* chance.
Brewers really shot themselves in the foot last night, they are still alive, but barely and I am excluding them. (for now)

That leaves five teams alive for five spots.

                          They are in order.

If the Marlins and Reds lose two out of three this weekend they'll wind up 30 and 30 and are still in (for the moment)
If the Cards and Giants split four games and go 2 and 2 they'll wind up 30 and 30 and wil more than likely grab the last two Wild Card spots.

If Philadelphia wins 2 out of 3 this weekend they also wind up 30 and 30.
Even if all five teams wind up 30 and 30 Philly are the odd team out due to tie breakers,

Philly pretty much needs to sweep Tampa to get in and would need help from SD (who plays SF) and Milwaukee (who plays the Cards)

There's some other factors as well, but all SF has to do is split four games this weekend and they're in.

Jays now 5-1 when Walker starts. Nate Pearson is back and will be a weapon out of the bullpen in the playoffs.

Un freaking real Grisham hits a 3 run walkoff bomb to walk off the Giants in their home ballpark. The Giants had a real chance to put some distance between them and the Brewers plus Phillies who both lost tonight.

Now Lamet and Myers pulled from game yesterday with injuries.

Not feeling at all confident going into the playoffs.

Top 2 starting pitchers status up in the air.

Reds top Twins 7-2, clinch 1st playoff spot since 2013

Mike Moustakas homered twice, Freddy Galvis hit a solo shot and the Cincinnati Reds clinched their first playoff spot since 2013, beating the AL Central-leading Minnesota Twins 7-2 Friday night.

SEPTEMBER 26: Lamet complained of biceps tightness, manager Jayce Tingler told reporters (including Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune) postgame. At this point, the organization anticipates him being able to start in next week’s Wild Card round, Tingler adds.
SEPTEMBER 25: Padres right-hander Dinelson Lamet and outfielder Wil Myers left the team’s game against the Giants on Friday for undisclosed reasons, Dennis Lin of The Athletic tweets.
Lamet’s the second key Padres starter who may have suffered a key injury in the past few days, joining fellow righty Mike Clevinger. The Padres seem likely to go without Clevinger for at least the first round of the playoffs because of a sprained elbow. Therefore, they can ill afford to lose Lamet, who has been a Cy Young-level starter this season. The 28-year-old entered Friday with a 2.07 ERA/2.51 FIP across 65 1/3 innings.
While Lamet has been one of the Padres’ best pitchers, Myers has emerged as one of their top hitters. After three straight disappointing seasons, Myers has rebounded in a big way with a .285/.352/.591 slash and 14 home runs in 213 plate appearances this year. He, like Lamet, is among the reasons the Padres broke a 13-year playoff drought this season. But now it seems the Padres are in danger of entering the postseason without Lamet, Myers and Clevinger, so they won’t be at full strength when the playoffs commence.

His confidence is shot and now that the Giants lost tonights game and the Brewers won all the pressure is on the Giants because the Brewers own the tiebreaker. Giants need to win tomorrow and hopefully the Brewers lose or no playoffs for the Giants.

The Oakland A’s reinstated utility man Chad Pinder from the injured list today, the team announced. Right-hander James Kaprielian has been optioned.
Pinder returns to give manager Bob Melvin flexibility in terms of his in-game substitutions. Pinder can play all over the field, including third base where the A’s are without star Matt Chapman. Jake Lamb figures to continue to get the majority of playing time at the hot corner, but Pinder should serve an important role on the roster. He could be used as a defensive replacement at third, but he could also see some starting time, specifically against southpaws. Vimael Machín and Tommy La Stella have also seen some time at third since Chapman went down. La Stella starts most days at designated hitter or second base, however. Machín doesn’t bring much power to the table, but he puts the ball in play, with a tendency to go the other way and hit the ball on the ground. The 26-year-old rookie is the least likely of the collective to see significant playing time in the postseason.
Pinder should see an at-bat in today’s season finale, but he won’t play the field. Still, Melvin expects Pinder to be able to start in the postseason against left-handers, per Martín Gallegos of MLB.com (via Twitter). Oakland will enter the playoffs as either the #2 or #3 seed after winning the AL West. They’ll need to win today and see the Twins lose in order to jump into the #2 spot. A loss or a Twins win will result in the #3 seed for the A’s. If they finish as the #3 seed, they’ll get the Astros in the first round. In that scenario, Pinder could start a potential game two or three if the Astros go to Framber Valdez to start one of those games.
As the #2 seed, their most-likely opponent would be the Cleveland Indians, who don’t have a left-handed starter set to go in the first round. The Chicago White Sox could also fall to the #7 seed if they lose and the Indians win. Both the White Sox and Indians have some big-time lefties working out of the bullpen, so even if Pinder doesn’t get his name in the starting lineup, he still will have the potential to make an impact, regardless of their first-round opponent.
Kaprielian made just two appearances for the A’s this season. The 26-year-old allowed 3 earned runs in 3 2/3 innings, his first taste of big-league action. The former Yankee farmhand came to Oakland as part of the Sonny Gray deal at the deadline in 2017.
