wow.... just shows had bad things have gotten re: sponsorships.....

maybe some of these companies trump is bringing back to the US can get involved.....

kidding aside, the costs of sponsorships and involvement in the sport generally have gone through the roof from the days before all the computer programs and endless sets of overpriced tires, dozens of cars, etc....

ultimately, the costs are going to have to be cut and the shops cut in half, employee wise, to make sponsorships reasonable again....

I actually read that Visser said that to field a competitive Cup team is currently north of 20 million per season. Wow. Thats unreal

something i thought was odd, as in, i dont think this was ever a surprise and probably even the plan...

visser owns furniture row, so he's his own sponsor, right? well if he wasn't getting enough of a return, it would be completely impossible to convince someone else to pony up

they havent been a full sponsor in years, just a small 3rd party sub now....maybe the 20 is what he would have had to add but dont think so

plus this isnt a investment for most, he just loved racing

bass pro shops is the main sponsor there, but if he wanted to field the team himself, he would have had to fork over about 20 mil he said...plus the partnership with JGR is also very expensive...he didnt think it was right by his family to do it all himself again...plus he isn't in great health so stress of that not worth it at all

just sucks and is scary the previous years champ can lose his sponsorship, truex isn't flashy so it seems like a bass pro shops sponsor would be perfect for him

not like there's a ton of stars out there

side note, almost bought a pretty big wooden hand-painted earnhardt car at the flea market today...thing was prob 2 feet by 1 foot, i just don't have anywhere to put anything right now

He still owner of the Dinger #47 and was espn talking head but think Ricky Craven is now no idea if he is still cause havent seen him this year at all anywhere

With all this talk of teams losing sponsors, filing bankruptcy and shutting down operations all together, Nascar needs to take a serious look at adding gambling and slot machines at the tracks.

Attendance is way down and the sport is competing on the same day with other big game events. Top drivers are either hanging it up or losing their ride altogether. Certainly doesn't look good. Somewhere along the way, Bill France's kids blew it as far as managing this company. Now, they just wanna cash out! Bill Sr. would've never let this shit happen.

I don't see how it's gonna survive if they don't. Hell, I'd go to more races if I knew I could wager or try my luck on the slots while waiting on a race to start.

Horse racing tracks have started to add slots and fantasy racing where you bet on past winners, their profits, plus race purses are steadily increasing.

Thats what I am hoping for LT. Oh yeah they would go back to back. Not a bad thing for a boring monday morning and afternoon. But they will try like hell to get cup in today even if they think they can only go to halfway.
