Aroldis Chapman will undergo surgery Thursday to repair fractures around his nose and left eye.
Chapman, who was also diagnosed with a mild concussion, will need 6-8 weeks of recovery time. And he won't necessarily be ready to pitch in major league games immediately after his rehab is through.

#19maybe he should wear a mask if he pitches again, just so he feels some kind of security. i would have issues getting back at itComment -

On a side note, says he can start tossing on the side in 10-14 days. Unreal to think he gets hit in the face and two weeks later he is will be warming up basically.Comment -

#23Purpose of the plate is to stabilize fracture, so my guess is it will be placed below the brain area. Usually the first thing people think about when they hear "plate in head" is that it would be in skull area.Comment -

#25This IS in the skull area. Your whole head is considered the skull right? Not trying to be a dick just clarifying what you mean. Do you mean upper skull (like closer to the top of the skull)?Comment -

#26Surgery to knock out Aroldis Chapman for 6-8 weeks
If anyone is lucky to be out just 6-8 weeks, it is Reds closer Aroldis Chapman after he was struck in the head by a line drive Wednesday night.
That is the prognosis for Chapman, MLB.com has reported. He will undergo surgery to repair a fracture above his left eye, but could work his way back by as early as the end of May. Asked if Chapman will pitch again this season, Dr. Timothy Kemchek replied, "absolutely."
Chapman is arguably the best and most dominant closer in baseball. He saved 38 games in 43 opportunities in each of the last two years with 234 strikeouts in 135 1/3 innings.
What befell Chapman has renewed calls for protection for pitchers on the mound.
