I never saw a game shortened due to "injury" before.

Right but that was due to near death. Which is why I posed this question, but from the sound of things, he should be fine eventually.

Scary things can happen as a pitcher, no time to react.

Chapman was taken to Banner Del E. Webb Medical Center in Sun City, where tests indicated fractures above his left eye and nose.

Could have been much worse, at least it wasn't his skull.

That is scary giving the fact that he is throwing so fast. Wonder how fast the ball was traveling of the bat

Actually Rotoworld has nothing on that, they make it sound like he's only out two months.

Aroldis Chapman will undergo surgery Thursday to repair fractures around his nose and left eye.

Chapman, who was also diagnosed with a mild concussion, will need 6-8 weeks of recovery time. And he won't necessarily be ready to pitch in major league games immediately after his rehab is through.

maybe he should wear a mask if he pitches again, just so he feels some kind of security. i would have issues getting back at it

Pitchers will never wear masks .

paul Mahalm had a very bad line drive off the face in the minors that required quite a bit of surgery.

^That is correct from most sources. Going to have that permanently.

On a side note, says he can start tossing on the side in 10-14 days. Unreal to think he gets hit in the face and two weeks later he is will be warming up basically.

Purpose of the plate is to stabilize fracture, so my guess is it will be placed below the brain area. Usually the first thing people think about when they hear "plate in head" is that it would be in skull area.

This IS in the skull area. Your whole head is considered the skull right? Not trying to be a dick just clarifying what you mean. Do you mean upper skull (like closer to the top of the skull)?

Surgery to knock out Aroldis Chapman for 6-8 weeks
If anyone is lucky to be out just 6-8 weeks, it is Reds closer Aroldis Chapman after he was struck in the head by a line drive Wednesday night.

That is the prognosis for Chapman, MLB.com has reported. He will undergo surgery to repair a fracture above his left eye, but could work his way back by as early as the end of May. Asked if Chapman will pitch again this season, Dr. Timothy Kemchek replied, "absolutely."
Chapman is arguably the best and most dominant closer in baseball. He saved 38 games in 43 opportunities in each of the last two years with 234 strikeouts in 135 1/3 innings.
What befell Chapman has renewed calls for protection for pitchers on the mound.

                                                        Very good question.

I wonder if MLB will ever add the same sort of faceguards (or other head protection) that the slo-pitch players use at high levels.

That is the slowest reaction time of team trainers, doctors, medical staff, etc. What the fuk are they doing other than just leaning over Chapman?
