#533Red Sox | Jon Lester looking to get back to basics
Boston Red Sox SP Jon Lester is dealing with poor mechanics that have been apparent in his last five starts, during which he has an 0-3 record and a 6.90 ERA. He met with manager John Farrell and pitching coach Juan Nieves on Wednesday, June 12. The manager cited Lester's lack of command of his four-pitch mix, particularly his four-seam fastball, as a source of his struggles. Farrell acknowledged that Lester could use some extra time to work on the flaws in his delivery, but he may not have that luxury. It seems likely that Boston will have to push SP Clay Buchholz (neck) back from Sunday, June 16, to Tuesday, June 18, meaning that Lester would start on Sunday, on regular rest. It's a good sign that Lester is working on the issues that have hurt him recently, but he won't get much experimentation time. Fantasy owners may want to sit him against a good Baltimore Orioles offense, although it's tough to do. Source: Boston Herald - Scott Lauber
BHQ take: Buchholz is now pushed back to Tuesday June 18, so a minor playing time adjustment is warranted as this neck issue lingers. Lester's last 5 starts (PQS scores: 2-4-4-2-0) have yielded a 5.4 Ctl, 6.6 Dom, 1.2 Cmd, so clearly he is having difficulty with the strike zone. He also gave up 5 HR in the last 2 starts, after giving up 5 over the previous 12 starts combined. Unless there is a significant news update with a believable resolution, sitting Lester for that June 16 start may be worth considering. -Matt Dodge
Impact: Low
Buchholz, Clay PT Loss: -1%
Rangers | Jurickson Profar could stay with team
The Texas Rangers are considering keeping SS Jurickson Profar on the active roster when 2B Ian Kinsler (rib cage) comes off the 15-day disabled list and making him a utility player. Source: MLB.com - T.R. Sullivan
BHQ take: Profar figures to lose time once Ian Kinsler returns, perhaps as soon as Sunday 6/16, but he seems to be first in line to fill in if TEX suffers injuries over multiple positions. The 20-year-old Profar has struggled a bit lately, but still projects as a plus-5 RAR middle infielder, which has solid value even for one-year leagues. -Rod Truesdell
Impact: Low
Profar, Jurickson PT Loss: -5%
Brewers | Corey Hart could be out another month
Milwaukee Brewers general manager Doug Melvin said during a radio interview that 1B Corey Hart (knee) could be out until after the All-Star break. Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - Tom Haudricourt
BHQ take: Hart's extended absence means more PT for recently acquired Juan Francisco and veteran utilityman Yuniesky Betancourt. Both have slumped recently, so the production dropoff from Hart's typical performance is huge. Francisco is 1-for-23, plunging to .206 BA, since being acquired from ATL in early June. His .195 xBA, 60% ct% and 0.19 Eye offer little reason for optimism. Betancourt started strong, with a .280 BA and six HR in April. He has cooled since, his BA spiraling downward to sub-.220 level. While his depressed 23% h% would seem to offer hope, his sub-.240 xBA suggests any BA upside is limited. -Tom Kephart
Impact: Med
Betancourt, Yuniesky PT Gain: 10%
Francisco, Juan PT Gain: 5%
Hart, Corey C PT Loss: -15%
Brewers | Ryan Braun not feeling much better
Milwaukee Brewers OF Ryan Braun (thumb) was out of the lineup for a third straight game Wednesday, June 12, against the Miami Marlins, and he said his right thumb injury does not feel much better than it did Monday, June 10. 'I hope that it gets better. I'm optimistic. I'll show up every day and do my rehab and stuff in the training room and hope it gets better,' Braun said. Source: MLB.com - Adam McCalvy
BHQ take: Braun's continued thumb ailment suggests a potential DL stint. With MIL struggling to remain in the playoff race, Braun's long-term health has priority. Logan Schafer is likely to continue getting the bulk of LF PT in Braun's absence. He has above-average speed, but does not reach base enough to use it. Schafer's lack of power is limiting, with his .236 xBA and 0.24 Eye showing scant upside. -Tom Kephart
Impact: High
Braun, Ryan J PT Loss: -10%
Schafer, Logan PT Gain: 5%
