Rangers | Mitch Moreland ready to return

BHQ take: Moreland appears on his way to a career year. That's provided his iffy hamstrings, which have caused him issues each of the last two seasons, hold up. His excellent PX and solid FB rate both suggest he'll mostly keep up his current HR pace. With health, 30 HR is not out of the question for Moreland. Get him back in your lineup. -Rod Truesdell

Yankees | Kevin Youkilis to have surgery
New York Yankees 3B Kevin Youkilis (back) will have back surgery to fix a herniated disc Thursday, June 21, and he'll be out for the next 10 to 12 weeks, at minimum. Source: New York Post - Joel Sherman
BHQ take: Youkilis is now basically done for the season, although there is still a possibility he could return in mid-to-late September and test himself with a few at-bats. Adams and Nix are expected to split 3B duty until Alex Rodriguez returns some time after the All Star Break. Brignac will gain additional time at SS when Nix slides over to 3B. The four players mentioned thus far will be joined by Derek Jeter and Eduardo Nunez in the second half, so it is unlikely that any of the six will get enough AB to make meaningful fantasy contributions by season's end. -Matt Dodge

Nationals | Danny Espinosa might stay in minors
Washington Nationals 2B Danny Espinosa (wrist) could stay in the minors after his rehab assignment is done, per general manager Mike Rizzo, but that decision hasn't been made yet. Anthony Rendon has played well, and Espinosa needs to work on getting fully healthy and fixing his swing. Source: The Washington Post - James Wagner
BHQ take: Since the above note was filed, Espinosa was indeed activated off the DL and optioned to Syracuse in an attempt to get his season turned around. An xBA of .202, a PX of 92 and an Spd of 69 will earn you a ticket to Triple-A. This is especially so when a former high first-round pick (Rendon) is waiting in the wings. It's a small sample, but Rendon has an xBA of .324 and a PX of 120 since being recalled. He's also been fine at second base. Espinosa's going to have show a lot of improvement to push Rendon aside, but his ability to play short as well as second could lead to a re-call if he can show some of the skills he had a couple of years ago. -Phil Hertz

BHQ take: Young tends to be a player appreciated more by fantasy owners than big league managers, but when you look at the competition in the Mets outfield, he's likely to get a good look in New York. His numbers to date this year are not far off his historical levels. Indeed, his xBA of .257 this year is identical to last year's xBA and his Spd is actually higher: 146 to 141. The difference in the two years can be traced to a return to the more traditional 30% hit rate after putting up a 37% hit rate in 2012. -Phil Hertz
