In his last 2 starts, he gave up 4 BB in each game, and in three short relief appearances since then, he had one 5 BB game and 7 walks total. There had been reports that the Nats would bring Ross Detwiler off the disabled list to take Saturday's start, but they have opted to have him make a rehab start instead. Some had hoped this would mean Craig Stammen and his 157 BPV would get a start, but the Nats want to leave him in the role where he's been so successful. Where does that leave Washington? Dipping into Triple-A for veteran Ohlendorf, whose last two starts have been good: 12.1 IP, 1 earned run, 22 strikeouts, but 7 walks. Those two games dropped his ERA for 2013 to 4.32; he had strugglied mightily before this streak. He's also not had much success in the majors, as he's returned negative value every season except 2009. His best xERA was 4.42 (also 2009), and his 2012 xERA was 5.53 with a 1.6 Cmd. Don't overspend on 'name' pitchers, like Kershaw or a Verlander.
You can get two good pitchers for the price of one elite pitcher.
