With all due respect Cjjohn, I like Mississippi State LARGE. I have watched Kentucky play 3 times this year and they lack talent in a major way. The Bulldogs are hungry and UK is just what they need to get back on track. Sorry my friend, but I don't think the Wildcats can hang for 4 quarters. I would be amazed if Kentucky were to lose by single digits.

LSU vs. Alabama - CBASS Analysis

Special Teams: Advantage- LSU
-Both kickers are very reliable and have been very efficient this year, but LSU's punter (Brad Wing) is the difference maker. He has pinpoint accuracy and can boot it a mile. Field position will be key in this game.
-Both teams offer up nice return specialists with Bama averaging slightly more yds/return. No real edge there.

Defensive Line: Advantage- LSU
-The Tigers have the most physical D-Line in the country. Not to mention, LSU's defensive front is superfast and has 19 sacks already on the season.

Defensive Backs: Tie
-Bama's Kirkpatrick and Barron are every bit as good as Mathieu (aka:The Honeybadger) and Claiborne.
-Both secondaries play with excellent discipline and are seldom caught out of position if ever.
-Alabama's pass defense is ranked #3, while LSU's pass defense ranks #11
-Alabama's pass eff. def. is ranked #1, while LSU's pass eff. def. is ranked #4.
-LSU's secondary has caused more turnovers which is why this is considered a wash.

Linebackers: Advantage- Alabama
-Alabama's Upshaw, Moseley, and Hightower are as good as it gets. They are very effective in making open field tackles, causing turnovers, and most importantly-THEY PLAY SMART!

Quarterback: Advantage- LSU
-LSU has 2 upperclassmen who both bring something to the table. Lee is a pocket passer who has shown great efficiency, while Jefferson is more of a dual threat who has great speed when a play calls for him to run.
-McCarron has not played bad at all, but has yet to play in a game of this magnitude against an excellent defense.
-Pass efficiency rating: LSU-162 (ranked 10th) Alabama- 144 (ranked 41st)

Wide Receivers: Advantage- LSU
-LSU has 3 legitimate playmakers in Shepard, Randle, and Beckham. Both Beckham and Shepard are faster than all of the Alabama receivers. Randle is the sure-handed possession receiver (who is also physically imposing) averaging over 19 yds/catch.
-Though Alabama's Hanks and Maze are solid receivers, they just don't offer up the playmaking potential as LSU's group.

Running Backs: Advantage- Alabama
-The Tide's Trent Richardson is a legitimate frontrunner for the Heisman Trophy. He is an excellent back averaging over 6 yds/carry!! He also has over 980 yards rushing on the year. He is an absolute workhorse who rarely turns the ball over.
-LSU has a nice stable of backs, but not one is as good as Richardson. Although Hilliard does add more power to LSU's run game, he lacks the experience.
-Rushing offense: Bama- 229 yds/gm (ranked 15th) LSU- 189 yds/gm (ranked 30th)

Offensive Line: Tie
-Alabama has the best rushing offense in the SEC due to their great O-Line play.
-LSU has given up the fewest sacks in the conference.
-Both teams run the ball effectively and protect the quarterback, so no real edge here.

Coaching: Tie
-As much publicity as Nick Saban gets for having won 2 National Championships, Les Miles is just as good of a coach in his own right. He is 15-9 in SEC road games, has 11 wins over coaches with a National Title, is 5-1 in bowl games, and 2-0 in BCS bowl games.
-FYI: Les Miles is the only coach to have beaten Bob Stoops' Sooners TWICE while coaching at Oklahoma State (which is not a knock on OU, but more of a compliment as to how tough that is to accomplish). Sandman can vouch for that one! I only mention this, because it shows that Miles can coach'em up with sub-par talent despite others' opinions contrary.

Overall Assessment: Take LSU + pts. (I like them outright, but the pts are always good insurance in a game like this)
-It will be an excellent game, no doubt about it. I just feel good about backing a team who has been battle tested and has shown that they backdown to no one. I also like the extra incentive that is hidden in the minds of the LSU players- the BCS National Championship Game is in New Orleans! Remember, motivation is the most important factor to determine when making a wager on a college football game. Alabama will have tons of motivation too, but I like my chances with LSU more. I also feel that the LSU players will be more loose due to less pressure put on them by Les Miles. He encourages his team to have fun in big games and the same cannot be said of Saban. Well, there you have it...this one is sure to please and should be a hell of a game!
