Willie has not retired, as far as I know. I think this is the original post review for Workhorse. Work, I hear you about these kids. Some do have a clue, but most are nothing more than a bunch of young wanna be macho's who want to show the world what they know, and hide from the world what they do not know. It actually is not bad in here. Some other sites, like EOG, are a complete and total disaster. Talk about your soap operas. They have guys making month long wagers and breaking the rules of the wagers in the middle of the wager. So this SBR is the only real place to get any kind of decent College Football information. Now is the time to get it, BEFORE the season starts.

Speaking of football, LSU QB Jordan Jefferson was a complete and utter disaster in yesterday's spring game, going 4-14 with an int, and also fumbling twice. I have no idea what Miles is thinking about if he keeps this terrible QB as his #1 QB.

Markeith Ambles was a no show for USC practice this week. Ambles, a Sophomore from Georgia was a highly touted high school recruit who was committed to the Vols while Kiffin was head coach. He followed Kiffin to the west coast and has been in the papers for all the wrong reasons. BigDaddy, I know you are a Trojans fan, how much more slack will Ambles be given before he ultimately is told to walk?

I'm revising my 2011 prediction..... if we can get to a bowl game - ANY bowl game - it will be a successful season. Next year we should be very good again. Clint Moseley will be the starting QB unless Keihl Frazier comes in and is a complete badass.

FLORIDA
Approximately 53,000 fans watched Florida's spring game on Saturday with walk-ons scoring more points than the starters. There wasn't a touchdown scored until the fourth quarter, when backup quarterback Tyler Murphy's dump-off pass went to walk-on running back Ben Sams for a ten yard score. Starting QB John Brantley started the game 0-6 passing, and finished 4 of 14 for 45 yards. The team's combined for just 340 yards of total offense. Ouch!

ALABAMA
The Crimson Tide has completed the second scrimmage of the 2011 spring practice. The quarterback battle continues as A.J. McCarron completed 19 of 40, 255 yards, 4 TDs and 0 Ints. Phillip Sims hit on 19 of 34 for 232 yards, 2 TDs and 1 interception. The play of the quarterbacks in the scrimmages may not be a good indication of where they are at, though. They are currently practicing against what is arguably the best secondary in the nation. Last year, Alabama ranked 13th in the nation in passing defense. All secondary starters return for the 2011 campaign. Bama has some great athlete's in the secondary.....guess who coaches this group?

STANFORD
Andrew Luck threw for 165 yards and 2 scores while leading the Cardinal to a 42-3 rout of the White in Stanford's annual spring game Saturday. Luck hit on 16 of 22 passing and led his team on TD drives on all four of his possessions. Tight end Zach Ertz caught three touchdowns and finished with 64 yards receiving. The game featured the first team players going against the second team.

IOWA
No surprise here, but James Vandenberg has established himself as Iowa's No. 1 quarterback. The junior's experience filling in for Ricky Stanzi in 2009 certainly helps, but he has continued to make progress this spring. Vandenberh has separated himself from John Wienke and A.J. Derby and will go into fall as the starting quarterback.

SYRACUSE
During an 83 play scrimmage Saturday, starting quarterback Ryan Nassib ran approximately 46 plays and completed 15 of 22 passes for 166 yards, 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Backup Charlie Loeb ran 20 plays and went 5 of 7 for 34 yards. Marcus Sales led the receiving corps with 5 catches for 58 yards and 2 touchdowns. The annual spring game will be Saturday in the Carrier Dome.

WASHINGTON
The quarterback battle continues between Keith Price and Nick Montana and remains wide open for the starters job. Price does usually take the first snaps in drills with Montana following. Each have had their moments during spring drills doing some really good things. Both have been very good at protecting the football. This QB competition will probably continue until the fall.

MOUNTAIN WEST CONFERENCE
The MWC non-conference schedule features 21 games against teams that went to bowls in 2010, including Arkansas, Army, BYU, Fresno State, Georgia, Hawaii, Michigan, Navy, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Texas Tech, Toledo, Tulsa, Nevada, Wisconsin and UTEP. The MWC will play three games against the Big 10 and 2 contest each against the Big 12, Pac 12 and SEC.

It appears that Florida and LSU are going to have major problems putting points on the board this season. Both teams starting offense looked pathetic at best, in their spring games. If LSU cannot get their offense to improve in a hurry, Oregon is going to destroy them when they open the season against each other at Jerryworld. Florida has more time to find their offense, opening at home against Florida Atlantic, UAB, and Tennessee.

Biddaddy, Florida went into their spring game with a ton of injured players, still, when your starting quarterback who struggled last year only hits 4 of 14, that's a worry. Big worry...............

Workhorse, I agree. Florida atleast has an advantage in their schedule, starting with a couple of Cupcakes. LSU gets Oregon right off the bat, and you know that LSU is going to have to find an offense real quick. Oregon is going to score against them. I do not see Florida in the race for the SEC title, though they are in the race for the SEC East. LSU is considered to be a legitimate National Title contender, but that bubble burst immediately if they lose to Oregon.

I live an hour from Gainesville and these people here dont believe UF will be worth a flip for awhile. But Ironically they all believe Muschamp is the right guy for the job. Bama, I know Florida had a lot of people hurt this spring but the spring game wasn't a very positive experience for the Gators. They just didn't look good. You know there has to be some players in Gainesville because Meyer recruited well over the years. Cerainly will be interesting to watch how the Gators shake out this fall.

ALABAMA
Alabama will hold its spring game this Saturday and will be televised by ESPN. There seems to be a lot of interest from the fans of seeing how the quarterbacks perform. Through the spring, both McCarron and Sims have looked sharp throwing the ball. I wouldn't be surprised if both share playing time this fall.

I am not a fan of multiple QB systems. They rarely work. I think that 'Bama would be much better off picking a starting Qb and going with him. Give the 2nd string QB as much time as possible in playing conditions, but stick to one starter until the game is out of hand, either way.

BD, Nick Saban has a history of selecting one quarterback and playing him except for injury or mop up duty. It would be a big change if he played two QB's but some think its a possibility this season. I think A.J. McCarron will be the starter and not sure how a 5-star recruit like Sims will handle it. I know the kid has a rocket for an arm and Bama would'nt want to lose him.

Va Tech has a very impressive record over the past decade but I wonder how many coaches at other schools would survive with a 1-18 record against top 5 teams. The Hokies seem content in winning the conference each and every year, then folding against elite competititon.

Va. Tech could go very far this year, because of a very easy schedule. Their only non-con game of note is at East Carolina, and they get Miami and UNC at home. They also do not play Florida State during the regular season. They do go to Ga. Tech. Their Atlantic Conference opponents are Clemson and Boston College, at home, and at Wake Forest. It just does not get any easier than this for Va. Tech schedule wise. 12-0 going into the ACC Championship game is certainly within reach.

WH, until Saban showed up at Alabama, the Tide was as mostly kicked around by the rest of the conference. I keep wondering if Saban will get another Pro itch and wander off like Carroll did. But at least Ala got away from "we got to have an Alabama alum to coach the boys" syndrome.

Wreck, Saban's wife loves Tuscaloosa....she hated Miami. My guess is Saban will retire at Alabama. He has all the tools available to be a consistent winner (facilities, money, adminstration backing, huge fan base, and family happy in Tuscaloosa). I think he always regreted leaving LSU because he and his family liked it there. I don't think he will make the same mistake anytime soon.

In the tough SEC, many games are going to come down to the wire and kickers are going to be crucial in many of these tight games. A few years back, only a handful of kickers received scholarships, now, top teams go after the best kickers in the country just like any other top player.

USC did not play well in 2000-2001. That record is also wrong, considering that USC won 99 games between 2002 and 2010. It should read 110-31.

NEBRASKA
The Big Ten Network wanted to air the Huskers' spring game, but Nebraska declined. Some coaches don't like the idea of playing a dumb-down offense or defense for the sake of not giving teams a summer to break down any new wrinkles they may have added. Coaches are just plain paranoid to say the least.

WAKE FOREST
The Demon Deacons will have their spring game at 1 p.m. on Saturday, where coach Jim Grobe is hoping to find some consistent play on offense. It's been a good spring for the defense, which hasn't held back, and very inconsistent for the offense. Grobe said he would like to see the offense close on Saturday with more consistency, particularly from the wide receivers. Grobe said the offense would make a good play then follow with a busted blocking assignment, dropped pass or bad throw. One of the things Grobe was most pleased about was the energy and play of the defense. They have been having fun and giving our offense fits all spring.

OKLAHOMA STATE
On the field, Oklahoma State took a big step forward last year, looking every bit the part of a Big 12 contender for the entire 2010 season. Could uniforms be a factor in pushing them over the top. I doubt it but it seems Oklahoma State wants to be the Oregon of the midwest with unifrom color combinations. We'll have to wait awhile to know for sure, but the Cowboys may not wear the same outfit twice (in a row) again. Look for combinations of orange, black, white and smoke gray. Call me old fashion, I like the traditional uniforms like Alabama, Tennessee, Penn State, Oklahoma, Texas........

PURDUE
The school announced this week that it will retire the new Purdue Pete Mascot and bring back the previous model. Purdue officially unveiled the new Pete at Saturday's spring game, and he was greeted with much criticism from many fans. His overall getup, without a jersey, has been a major turnoff. I think if I were a Purdue fan, I'd worry about the damn football team winning some games this season.

OKLAHOMA
The Sooners could very well open the season as the No. 1 ranked team in the country this fall. I have them at the top in my early poll. The big question mark for this team is the secondary. Oklahoma losses both starting safeties in All-American Quinton Carter and Johnthan Nelson. Former starter Sam Proctor returns, but undersized former backup corner Aaron Colvin is currently the starter at strong safety across from Javon Harris. This unit could be solid next season, but it's definitely a worry for the coaching staff. In a passers' league like the Big 12, it could be a costly worry if not resolved.

AUBURN
The Tigers will go offense vs. defense in Saturday's A-Day game, using a point system designed by the coaching staff. Chizik said the Tigers' low numbers this spring made dividing into two teams impractical. The game will be televised by Sports South at 3 p.m. central.

HOMER SMITH
Former Alabama offensive coordinator Homer Smith, regarded as one of the keenest offensive minds in the annals of college football, has died. He was 79. Smith, an assistant coach with the Crimson Tide during 1987-88 and 1994-95, died Sunday at his home in Tuscaloosa after a four-year battle with cancer. Smith coached at many schools during his career and did a fine job for Alabama during his time with us. I always like coach Smith.

Amazingly enough, USC ranks 7th in the nation in 2012 recruiting, despite the sanctions that they are saddled with. According to Maxpreps, despite the low number of recruits that they will be able to take, the quality is there. It seems that depth is going to be the main issue for USC in the next two to three years.

Trent Richardson was named MVP of the spring game attended by over 92,000 fans. I look for Richardson to have a big season this year. Backup Eddie Lacy has also had a solid spring. Freshman Dee Hart has also created some excitement for back up support.

On offense, the question marks have been who will play quarterback and depth at wide receiver. I would be happy with either MaCarron or Sims at quarterback. Both have done a good job this spring in their battle for the starters job. New WR's Duron Carter (transfer) and recruits Marvin Shinn and Danny Woodson will get a good look this fall as backups.

The defense should be one of the best in the SEC. The secondary and linebackers are experienced and talented. The front three has been of some concern but Josh Chatman, Damion Square, Ed Stinson, Darrington Sentimore, Jesse Williams and transfer Quinton Dial offer a lot of promise. All had good springs and all will play this season.

More than 435,000 fans have attented the five A-Day games since Nick Saban arrived. Including 90,000 plus in three of the five years. Yeah, there's interest in the Crimson Tide and Saban has been a huge part of putting Alabama back in the national picture. Thank you coach!

Roll Tide brother indeed...I just hope we get the left tackle situation taken care of....I didnt like the fact Trent was the leading receiver of the A-day game...I hope it was because the secondary is just that good that the qb's had to take the check-down as thier option. in that case then the qb's showed great decision making skills.....Hightower showed he is 100% roaming sideline to sideline.....and Saban's optimism was music to my crimson ears I cant phuckin wait....

USC's pitch is that if you go here, you've got a better chance as a pro and "the beach is just over there". Media darlings and all that. I can't say that they are wrong. ND seems to get talent with the same pitch but with crappier weather, "you can ice fish just over there."

What amazes me is the attitude of the Coaching staff at USC. They just move on, dealaing with what they have. Kiffin seems to run a very workmanlike camp. USC is not nearly as loose as they were when Pete Carroll was there. I imagine that Kiffin would loosen up a bit if he starts having the success that Carroll did after year one.

Since 2003, those on the trustee board are limited to two consecutive 7 year terms. Those already appointed to board before 2003 (lowder) are grandfathered in to having two extra consecutive terms. This means auburn fans get to have lowder by their side for the next 20 years. Good luck eagle fans. This guy will eventually bury your program.

SOME FOOTBALL STUFF...........

* Eight of the SEC's head coaches are now making $2.5 million or more per year. Who said pressure to win?

* Hawaii is trying to find replacements for receivers Greg Salas and Kealoha Pilares, who combined for over 3000 yards in the Warriors pass happy offense. Big shoes to fill.

* An announced crowd of 25,000 fans turned out for Oklahoma's annual Red-White spring game. Quarterback Landry Jones will be the starter opening game but backup Drew Allen put on a good show completing 16 of 29 and 1 touchdown.

* TCU is not only looking for a quarterback; the Hornfrogs are also looking for a return man to replace Jeremy Kerley. Kerley had 30 of the team's 36 punt returns and 19 of the teams 31 kickoff returns last year. Big shoes to fill.

* Big question at Pittsburgh is will quarterback Tino Sunseri be able to run the offense effectively this year. Sunserii was inconsistent last season. He is the son of Alabama's linebacker coach Sal Sunseri.

* Sixty-six thousand fans turned out to watch Nebraska's spring game. To be honest, it was nothing more than a dressed up scrimmage. Simple and basic would describe this so called game.

* East Carolina ranked last in all of college football in total defense last year giving up 479 yards per game. The Pirates are switching to a 3-4 in hopes of getting some improvement. I hope they don't have the same players trying to play the new defense.

* After watching Ole Miss' spring game, it's obvious the Rebels have some serious problems on defense. The offense is not that good either so it could be a long season down in Oxford. The defense may be the worse in the SEC.

* North Texas went into spring practice looking for a quarterback. Derek Thompson and JUCO transfer Brent Osborn are competing for the job. Neither has any game day experience. Looks like another long year for North Texas.

* The race for the starting quarterback position at Penn State has been the big story this spring. Four QBs are competing but most eyes are on sophomore Rob Bolden and junior Matt McGluin who split the starts during 2010.

* North Carolina senior tailback Ryan Houston underwent surgery last week to repair a broken shoulder blade. He will be sidelined approximately four months.

* Big quarterback battle down in Miami. Jacory Harris and Stephen Morris both have struggled this spring and neither has separated himself from the other. Remember last year when Harris was being mentioned as a Heisman possibility. Hell, he may not even start this year.

* On a cold, wet day, 8,000 Iowa Hawkeye fans got a chance to see the team in action. James Vandenburg is clearly the No.1 quarterback and clearly has some work to do to lead this team to wins.

Wrecktangle, I sent you an e-mail. Let me know if you get it. Workhorse, the Miami QB situation is a mess. Harris just never panned out. He panics under pressure. Morris does not have the physical talents of Harris, but does not make nearly as many mental errors or mistakes as Harris does.

Penn State is having all kinds of QB problems. No one stands out as of yet. JoePa seems to be looking for a miracle. All of the candidates are average, at best. Penn State is going to have to depend on their defense once again this season.

BD, the QB situation at Miami is a mess. When the high school kid from down there (Teddy Bridgewater) changed his commitment from Miami to Louisville, that really hurt the Canes. I know Alabama like Bridgewater and recruited him hard as a quarterback.

Penn State is just sitting there waiting on Alabama to show up. That game scares me even though I think Bama's defense can handle Penn State's offense. Two good defenses going at each other. Might be a good Under play.

* Before Nick Saban arrived in 2007, the previous three Alabama coaches went 67-65.

* Paul Bryant and Frank Thomas are the two greatest coaches in Alabama football. Both won national titles as well as many SEC Conference titles.
