The Alabama-Penn State game is certainly setting up as a very good under play. Last year, when both teams had much better offenses, the total was 44 and the game went well under that total (24-3). I look for more of the same this year, total wise. Instead of 24-3, maybe 17-10. A closer game, but not many points.

STEPHEN GARCIA - SOUTH CAROLINA QB
Garcia, who will be a fifth-year senior, has been suspended FIVE different times during his career, including twice this spring. The final came earlier this month after he became disruptive at a SEC mandated LEADERSHIP seminar and was asked to leave. Garcia later admitted to coach Steve Spurrier that he had been drinking. Seems drinking is a big part of Garcia's problems. He has been arrested three times at South Carolina.

Spurrier said yesterday it would be a university decision on whether Garcia would return in the fall, BUT IT'S CLEAR THE DOOR IS OPEN. Garcia is on track to graduate in May. With a degree in hand, he's eligible to play anywhere in the country and he's got another year remaining. (Houston Nutt, are you listening)

Garcia has a 17-13 record as a starter for the Gamecocks. He has passed for 6,753 yards, 43 touchdowns and 32 interceptions. He's rushed for 606 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also holds the career record for suspensions at South Carolina with 5.

My question to you South Carolina folks is how can you trust Garcia to lead your team. The guy is so immature it's frightening. I would name Connor Shaw the starting quarterback and move on. He was drunk at an SEC "leadership" seminar for God's sake.

          OKLAHOMA STATE
Despite throwing the ball 532 times (third most in the Big 12), the Cowboys gave up just 10 sacks last year. The good news for the quarterback and Cowboy fans is all five of the offensive line starters are back for the coming season. Lots of experience up front with four seniors and one junior.

          KANSAS STATE
It was assumed by some that running back transfer Bryce Brown (Tennessee) would come in and start for the Wildcats. Not so fast my friends. Even though Brown was one of the top recruits in the country in 2009 when he signed with the Vols, Brown finds he is receiving a significant challenge from 5-7, 185 pound John Hubert. Hubert has been the surprise of spring practice.

          AUBURN
The 2010 national champions will visit the White House and meet with President Obama later next month. Last year, it cost Alabama over $85,000 to make the visit. This is probably a good experience for the players but with all the budget problems surrounding universities these days, seems like a steep price for a one day visit. Estimates are the visit will cost Auburn up to $100,000.

          MICHIGAN
Defensive back Cullen Christian has decided to transfer from the Wolverines footbal program. As a member of Michigan's 2010 recruiting class, Christian was a 4-star player and rated as the No. 8 cornerback in the country. Christian played in 11 games as a freshman. Pittsburgh, Ohio State, West Virginia and UCLA are being mentioned as a future home.

          NAVY
Head coach Den Niumatalolo who has averaged 9 wins over the past three seasons is getting a contract extension. The specifics of the contract have not been released but it is believed to be for 7 or 8 years at a base salary of $1.5 million. The guy has done a good job at Navy following Paul Johnson who went to Georgia Tech.

          NEBRASKA
Bo Polini said yesterday that if the season started today, Taylor Martinez would be his starting quarterback. He also hinted that the competition between Martinez, Cody Green and Brion Carnes would continue into the fall. Carnes was the highlight of the spring game completing 11 of 15 for 173 yards and two touchdowns. Martinez was just 4 of 13 with one interception.

Former Alabama, Eastern Michigan runningback Mike Marrow has officially committed to transfer to Nebraska. Marrow's father Vince is a graduate assistant on Bo Pelini's staff. Marrow was not going to be a factor at Alabama and transferred to Eastern Michigan, now he's headed to Corn country.

I just do not understand what is going on at Michigan. They lost many players under Rich Rod, and the trend is continuing. Mikchigan can ill afford to lose defensive players. Their defense is like a siv going in.

There is no question that Oklahoma State will score a lot of points this season. The big question is whether or not they can stop anyone. They will be tested. The Big 12 now plays a round Robin schedule, and while Okie State hosts Oklahoma at the end of the season, they go to Texas A&M, Texas and Missouri, the latter two being back to back.

Biddaddy, you need to bump up your Big 12 writeup. I can't find the damn thread.

Any team with a good offensive line and a decent QB has a headstart on the season. Oklahoma State had a good season last year and will Gun-dy for another one.

                  BCS ANTITRUST
Looking to file a federal lawsuit aimed at disbanding the BCS system, Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff has put out a request for proposals from national antitrust firms to help with the case. Shurleff said Thursday he expects the suit, accusing the BCS of being an illegal monopoly, will be filed this summer. It will seek damages for schools including Utah and Boise State that have lost out on millions of dollars over the years because the existing system keeps non-preferred conferences at a competitive disadvantage, he said.

                  FIESTA BOWL
The NCAA is delaying its decision on whether to continue sanctioning the Fiesta Bowl until later this year, saying it needs time to gather information on how the event will be managed in the future. The NCAA said in a release yesterday that it also wants to review the findings of a BCS task force that is examining the financial and political improprieties uncovered in a Fiesta Bowl internal investigation made public last month. That report could be finished my mid-May.

                  ORLANDO BOWLS
The 2012 Capital one Bowl will be played on January 2 for just the fourth time since it moved to a New Year's Day spot in 1987, while the 2011 Champs Sports Bowl has been set for December 29 next season. Officials announced the dates for the Orlando bowl games Thursday. The Champs Bowl will kickoff at 5:30 p.m., and the Capital One Bowl at 1 p.m. Both games are being televised by ESPN.

                  BELK BOWL
Charlotte's bowl game will be played at night for the first time. Belk Bowl officials announce Thursday this year's game will kick off at 7 p.m., December 27 at BkofAma Stadium. It will be televised by ESPN. The game pairing teams from the Atlantic Cost Conference and Big East has previously been called the Meineke Bowl and Continental Tire Bowl.

Basically, the NCAA has told the Fiesta Bowl to "give us an excuse to continue to sanction you". You can bet that the Fiesta bowl will do just that. The other Bowl Game in Arizona, the Insight Bowl, is also being investigated for many of the exact same reasons. I do not think that the BCS really wants to open this can of worms.

                      AUBURN
National Signing Day may be nine months away, but that hasn't stopped Gene Chizik and his staff from gathering commitments. The Auburn football coach last week added tight end/defensive end Darrion Hutcherson, who stands 6-foot-7 and weighs 245 pounds. He picked the Tigers over Ole Miss, Utah, Mississippi State and others. Hutcherson's commitment came one day after quarterback Zeke Pike of suburban Cincinnati pledged to sign with Auburn in 2012. The 6-foot-5, 220 pound standout chose the Tigers over Alabama, Florida, LSU, Arkansas and others. Auburn now has five players committed.

POSSIBLE SEC FIRST ROUND DRAFT CHOICES
The NFL Draft begins Thursday night at Radio City Music Hall. Here's a look at Southeastern Conference players who should go in the first round.

                      Cam Newton, QB, Auburn
                      Marcell Dareus, DT, Alabama
                      Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU
                      A.J. Green, WR, Georgia
                      Julio Jones, WR, Alabama
                      Mike Pouncey, C, Florida
                      Justin Houston, LB, Georgia
                      Derk Sherrod, OT, Mississippi State
                      Nick Fairley, DT, Auburn
                      Mark Ingram, RB, Alabama

Ingram could fall to the second round. There's a lot of concern about his knees of late. The others players should go in the first round.

Comitments mean nothing these days. Let's see how many of these commitments he actually signs after a so-so season, which will be the case for Auburn this year.

Or when the NCAA comes in with a shovel and starts digging around. I wouldnt put much stock in anything Auburn is doing right now. With a so so season on the horizon and tons of possible sanctions, Auburn may see a huge drop in recruiting when the s*it hits the fan

Right now, Auburn has a pretty good sales pitch to potential recruits. The Tigers lost 24 seniors plus 3 key players declaring early for the NFL and 4 or 5 who were kicked off the team for robbery

The pitch: Come to Auburn.....and start right away, we have plenty of positions open. And to be honest....they do need players who can contribute early.

Per request here is a copy of the offensive breakdown for the Tennessee Volunteers as seen in another thread.

QB - Bray is the guy, the last 5 or 6 games of last year showed a much higher ceiling than Simms could ever reach. Simms was notorious for staring down receivers and holding the ball too long. With a young O-Line, that was a disaster. Bray as stated before has a gunslinger mentality, that along with the fact that he is 19 years old will cause him to struggle at times. He has a great arm and a quick release, the next step for him is mental as teams will begin to gameplan for him further. Simms will be there as a back up, hes a tough kid and could possibly be used sparingly if Bray has an off game. Freshman Justin Worley was the Gatorade Player of the Year and I believe he will be a good fit in time running Jim Cheneys offense.

Running Back- Tauren Poole returns after logging a 1000 yd rushing last season. He is a tough back who lacks break away speed and sometimes doesnt see the hole quick enough. Once again he was a victim of a young O-Line who really never gelled as run blockers. Expect Sophomore Rajion Neal to see many carries this year as he has been impressive in the early goings of spring. He is quicker than Poole and is deceptively fast recently clocking a sub 4.4 40. Freshman Marlin Lane and Tony Williams look to throw their hats in the ring for carries but both are recovering from knee injuries. FB will be Channing Fugate who took over starting duties midway through last season.

Wide Receiver - Two of the most coveted WR recruits a year ago will highlight the Vols receiving group. Sophomores Justin Hunter and Da'Rick Rogers will be the go to guys and both have glimpses of their big play capability during last season. Zach Rogers is the elder of the group and will be battling incoming Freshmen DeAnthony Arnett and Vincent Dallas for the spot in the slot.

Tight End - Luke Stocker's departure will be felt this year as there isnt anyone at the TE spot that gets me excited. Mychal Rivera has a hold of top spot for now without much competition. Rivera originally was an Oregon signee who instead went the JUCO route before landing with the Vols. He saw a few passes come his way last year but TE will be the weak spot on offense for the Vols.

O-Line - Where the Vols will see the most improvement mainly because there is nowhere to go but up. Last year the Vols had many struggles with the running game and keeping the QB upright. All five starters will have game experience heading into 2011. Juwan James could possibly make the move from RT to LT as he appears to be the most talented of the group. Alex Bullard (Notre Dame transfer) along with an impressive early entree freshman Marcus Jackson improve the depth on the line. This area should show great strides in improvement this year. Coach Harry Heistand is a coach with a great resume of developing talent. While he was at Illinois every senior starting offensive linemen in Hiestand's first seven years with the Illini was signed to an NFL contract.

                                        Tennessee Vols Defense

D-Line - I have mixed feelings about this years D Line group but there is potential for the unit to be the biggest surprise group on the team. This is so based on added depth at DT by adding JUCO transfer Maurice Couch and the return of Marlon Walls after being plagued by injuries the past few years. Speaking of the injury bug, DE's Ben Martin and Jaques Smith have both been victims of some spring injuries. Smith is expected to be a go for the season opener but I have my doubts about Martin, a former 5 star recruit who has rarely seen the field after tearing both achilles in separate seasons. Malik Jackson is the lone returning starter on the line and has proven the most. His ability to play either inside or out on the line gives the Vols much needed flexibility.

Linebackers - The most concerning unit on defense for the Vols. Herman Lathers is the lone returning starter. Austin Johnson and John Propst are also battling for the MLB spot, both of which are not outstanding athletes, just lunch pale guys who give it everything they have in the middle. The last outside LB spot is also up for grabs with Daryl Vereen and Greg King competing. Freshman AJ Johnson is arguably the most important get of the 2011 class and could possibly see himself as a big contributor throughout the year.

Secondary - I have high hopes for this secondary for years to come. A solid foundation seems to be setting in place and that is even without Janzen Jackson returning. If Jackson does return this will be the deepest the secondary has been in years. My only issue is the fact that Julio Jones' favorite DB, Art Evans, still hasnt graduated and unfortunately will more than likely be an opening day starter. Otherwise the corner position has a couple of young guys who come in with high expectations. Sophomore Eric Gordon saw a lot of time last year and is one of the strongest guys on the team, outlifting many of the linemen. Freshman Justin Coleman is an early entree who is making it hard for Dooley to keep him off the field after a great spring. Former USC commit Byron Moore also comes in and looks to help out after spending a year at JUCO. The safety position (sans Janzen Jackson) includes hard hitting Brent Brewer and Prentiss Waggner return after solid years a year ago. WR convert Marsalis Teague also will see time as a nickelback.

From what you say, it sounds as if teams may be able to run against Tennessee this season. They may also have trouble with a pass rush.

I believe that early in the year that run defense will definitely be an issue. Montori Hughes is a big question mark at DT. He has the size and ability to be a good D tackle but has issues with work ethic and has worked his way into Dooleys dog house. Depth was the biggest issue last year, there were a number of games Tennessee just didnt have the bodies to compete for 4 quarters. This year will be a bit better in that department barring key injuries. That along with the fact I am not sold on the MLB position. Hopefully AJ Johnson can get some reps early in the year at MLB so he can be a anchor in the middle for years to come.

Pass rush will be similar to last year where they finished middle of the pack in NCAA with regards to sacks. I love Malik Jackson's motor and Jaques Smith showed some pass rush skills last year. Curt Maggitt is a speed rush guy off the edge but as a freshman who is a bit slim, I think a red shirt may be in order.

This is 100% correct. Auburn uses the same old routine in recruiting. "why go play at alabama and be forced to compete for playing time when you can come to auburn and play right away?"

The best part about that is, I as an alabama fan, do not want non-competitors on my team. If they just want playing time because they are famous highschool hotshots there are plenty of places to go where they can stand out alone. I prefer team players myself.

The junior to be threw for 256 yards and three touchdowns for the White team, though the Blue Team hung on to win 31-28. Newton completed 23 of 44 pass attempts with one interception and stayed composed despite several drops by his receivers. He was able to connect on a handful of deep plays, including two that went for 38 yards.

Quarterback Jon Budmayr and the rest of the Badgers' offense were held without a touchdown as the defense dominated Wisconsin's spring footbal game at Camp Randall Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Budmayr, a redshirt sophomore, is vying to replace departing starter Scott Tolzien. Freshman Joel Stave looked slightly sharper, but none of Wisconsin's offensive players truly stood out as the Badgers' offense failed to produce a touchdown drive.

The NCAA has cleared Barry Brunetti to play football immediately at Mississippi, giving the Rebels three scholarship quarterbacks for the upcoming season. Brunetti, a transfer from West Virginia who is from Memphis, came to Ole Miss in part because of his ailing mother. The NCAA usually requires transfers to sit out one season but can grant a waiver if there is a family hardship. Ole Miss is about 75 miles from Memphis. Brunetti, a 6-foot-0, 213 pound sophomore, is one of three quarterbacks competing for the starting job. He threw for 211 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in the Rebels' spring game April 16. The team's most experienced quarterback, junior Nathan Stanley, left the school earlier this month and will transfer to another school. Brunetti, Randall Mckey and Zack Stoudt are all competing for the starters job.

Many key contributers were held out or limited during the spring game. That includes QB Thomas who played a few series. One player who stood out was former walk-on running back Derek Good, who had 10 carries for 75 yards.

Defensive end Benson Mayowa continued his impressive spring, leading the team with five tackles. The one downside was a knee injury to linebacker Robert Siavii.

Florida finally got rid of troubled CB Janoris Jenkins. This kid was a mental midget, and has cost himself millions of dollars. Now he has no college team to play for and no NFL team to draft him, since he did not declare. Florida HC Muschamp made the decision. He said that both he and Jenkins agreed that it was time for Jenkins to move on in his career. Translation: "Get the hell out of here. You are finished." The closest this kid will come to working for the NFL will be selling food at a concession stand in some stadium, if he can keep out of jail, which is doubtful.

One member received a 2003 Chevy Tahoe and $3500.00 in exchange for a watch and passes to the 2010 Rose Bowl. This story gets better and better.

BD, how bad will the sanctions be when the NCAA is done? This is a little bit different than most cases. Im wondering how hard they will come down on OSU.

I mean, we win the title and all hell breaks lose. It's nice to have, but damn guys, it's like you all have had personal experiences where an AU person stole your woman, stole your dog, and sliced your tires. I've never really enjoyed your title wins, but damn.... I didn't jump the shark. Rant over.

I wouldnt put much stock in anything Auburn is doing right now. With a so so season on the horizon and tons of possible sanctions, Auburn may see a huge drop in recruiting when the s*it hits the fan

If Malzahn/Trooper/Luper/Thigpen stay AU will sign a great class, period.... low wins = come start now and help us get the trophy back... big wins = get on board the best thing going.
