In other news, as predicted by myself, it appears that Ohio State Head Coach Jim Tressel is in very deep caca now. He has voluntarily taken a 5 game suspension, just like his players received. It certainly appears as if Tressel and Ohio State are trying everything they can to keep the NCAA out of their business. Thios could be the end for Tressel and could lead to major NCAA penalties leveled against Ohio State.
I am with you, I think Tressel's days are numbered. It also isnt good news for him that Bruce Pearl is apparently on the way out at UT for the same reasons (lying). Pearl's lies involved secondary violations while Tressel's seem to be more serious.

I totally agree. What suprises me is that Tennessee has not already fired Pearl. Ohio State will wait and see what the NCAA does before making such a decision.

Ohio State fans have plenty to worry about. If Tressel survives and suffers no further punishment, his first game back is at Nebraska. So he and the idiots that make up the "tattoo 5" will get to knock the rust off in Lincoln. Good luck with that. What appeared to be a walk thru the park to the Big 10 championship now becomes a much bigger effort. Even if Ohio State makes it that far, their chances at another shot at an N.C. are all but gone.

The Crimson Tide starts their first of 15 spring practices today with four of the five starters returning on the offensive line. Here's how the line is stacking up heading into the spring drills.
LT AARON DOUGLAS, 6-6, 280, JR.:
Coming from Arizona Western Community College, Djouglas has the experience and talent to step into the starting lineup. He has done it before at Tennessee where he was a freshman All-American before transferring out.
LG CHANCE WARMACK, 6-3, 300, Jr.:
Warmack is coming off his first season as a Tide starter. His job never seemed to be in jeopardy last season while being named co-offensive player of the week after wins over Duke and Mississippi State. He's a bright kid who has two seasons left to improve.
C WILLIAM VLACHOS, 6-1 290, SR:
Vlachos is all business on the football field. He is one of the two true veterans in the group entering his third season starting. His health, though, will be something to keep an eye on this spring.
RG BARRETT JONES, 6-4, 301, JR:
Jones is a third year starter who is the brains of the operation. An ESPN academic All-America last year, Jones was a coach on the field for the two new starters in 2010. An Outland Trophy watch-list player who needs a big year for the Tide.
RT D.J. FLUKER, 6-6, 330, SO:
Once a top recruit coming out of high school, Fluker transformed himself while being redshirted in 2009. He dropped around 70 pounds ad gained the mobility he needed at tackle. Fluker progressed during his first season starting and has three more years of eligibility left.
OTHERS:
OL CYRUS KOUANDJIO, 6-7, 322, FR:
The biggest score of the 2011 signing class won't arrive for duty until summer. Learning the mental and physical side of an SEC offensive line is about as rare as it gets, and Kouandjio won't get the head start this spring. He is young but has all the talent in the world.
OL TYLER LOVE, 6-6, 304, JR:
A former 5-star recruit, his name hasn't been mentioned as a starter. He was listed as the backup left tackle last season, but the arrivals of Douglas and Kouandjio hurt his chances of assuming the starting gig.
OL ALFRED MCCULLOUGH, 6-2, 310, JR:
Mac appears to be the utility man of the line again this spring. He filled in for an injured Fluker and started four games in 2010, but without starters departing, he'll be hard pressed to crack the lineup.
Bama will be breaking in a new quarterback this season so an solid, experienced offensive line is a plus.

WISCONSIN
As the Badgers begin the process of replacing Scott Tolzien at quarterback, the contenders for the starting job won't have the luxury of throwing to the team's leading returning receiver. Head coach Bret Bielema announced yesterday that wide receiver Nick Toon will not be available for any of the 15 spring sessions due to injury. Toon underwent foot surgery recently and should be ready to go come fall practice.
TENNESSEE
A little over five weeks after being suspended from the football team, Brent Brewer has now been welcomed back to the team. Brewer was arrested last month on a domestic assault charge. The 22 year old sophomore safety started six games last season. Brewer had originally signed with Florida State out of high school but opted for baseball after being drafted in the second round of the 2006 MLB draft. Who said spring practice is starting...I didn't say that.
NOTRE DAME
Irish head coach Brian Kelly has suspended his star receiver Michael Floyd from all football related activities. Floyd was arrested early Sunday morning by university police and charged with a drunk driving offense. According to police, his BAC was .19 which is more than double the legal limit. Floyd was pulled over at 4 a.m. for running a stop sign.
UCLA
When the 2011 season kicks off, the Bruins will have a new offensive coordinator, a new defensive coordinator and now a new special teams coordinator. Yesterday, STC Frank Gansz resigned and is considering a position with SMU. Anyone out there want to bet that UCLA has a new head football coach for the beginning of the 2012 season?
OREGON STATE
Head coach Mike Riley announced the addition of two new assistants. Brent Brennan will coach wide receivers and Chris Brasfield will work with tight ends. Brennan spent last season as receivers coach at San Jose State. Brasfield was a defensive grad assistant at archrival Oregon last year.
UTSA
University Texas-San Antonio will officially start it's football program under the guidance of former Miami head coach Larry Coker this upcoming season. The Roadrunners will start their football program in the FCS, before moving to the WAC in 2012. I always did wonder what happened to Coker after he was run off from Miami.

It's about time you got back in here. Good seeing you Workhorse. As far as UCLA goes, will they have a tough 2011 season? Yes. Will they have a new HC in 2012? Probably not. UCLA is cheap, and like all cheap schools who have had bad football teams, they have a tendency NOT to fire their head coaches until their contracts expire. They did that with Toledo and Dorrell. There is no reason to believe that they will not do the same to Neuheisel.
Notre Dame may have bigger issues with Tim Floyd that his arrest for DUI. This was Floyd's third alcohol related arrest. Not only that, but the NCAA may show some interest in this case, seeing as Floyd was crusing around in a Cadillac at the time of the arrest.
Clemson's loss is Miss. States gain. Clemson starting LB Brandon Maye announced that he is leaving the school and will join the Miss. State program. Maye, who will enroll as a grad student hopes that by doing that, he can play this season, and not have to sit out a season. Miss. State lost all three starting LB's from last season, but not much more. This makes a team that is considered a strong dark horse to win the SEC West even stronger.

AUBURN
The Tigers begin spring practice today and will begin the process of replacing most of the key players who helped them win a national championship. Auburn loses 33 players off last year's team, including 16 starters. Finding a quarterback will be a big priority. Redshirt junior Barrett Trotter and redshirt sophomore Clint Moseley will battle for the job during the spring, with first year freshman Kiehl Frazier expected to join the competition in the fall. Whoever wins the job will have the unenviable task of operating behind an offensive line that must replace four of five starters. This is one area where incoming freshmen will definitely have a chance to compete for a starting assignment. They'll have 15 practices to state their case, including the A-Day spring game, set for 2 p.m. April 16 at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
Miami
Huricane linebacker Ramon Buchanan is facing felony counts of resisting arrest and battery after allegedly spitting on and attempting to head butt a police officer, as well as three misdemeanor charges following an incident last week. He has been suspended indefinitely by Hurricanes coach Al Golden, and was not on the team's latest depth chart released Tuesday. Police said Buchanan, 21, caused a disturbance in a restaurant bathroom in the Coconuit Grove section of Miami around 1:30 a.m. Friday. On the heels of a report six members of the team have been suspended for the season opener, new coach Al Golden seems to have his hands full.
TEXAS
Because of the Mack Brown edict banning the media and fans from Texas' spring practice this year, details of how the Longhorns have looked under the revamped coaching staff have been few and far between. One of the details that's apparently emerged is that linebacker Jordon Hicks has been very, very impressive. Unfortunately for Hicks, he suffered a broken foot in a recent practice and is through until the fall. Hicks was a 5-star player in the class of 2010 and rated the top outside linebacker coming out of high school.
SOUTHERN CAL
Starting running back Marc Tyler suffered a hamstring injury during the first day of spring practice yesterday. The Trojans are taking a wait-and-see approach as to the extent of the injury. He may be limited for the rest of spring practice. Last season, Tyler rushed for 913 yards and 9 touchdowns.
ALABAMA
Spring practice is a time of change for the Tide. Many players are getting a chance at new positions. Saban said that since there are no games to play are game plans to put in, it is a great time to experiment with players. New faces and a few veterans took turns at different positions in Monday's first workout and figure to do the same when the 15-practice schedule resumes at 3:30 p.m. today.

Mack Brown is scrambling for his job. If Texas does not produce, he is the only one to blame. Last season Brown blamed everyone except George W. Bush for his team's failure. Now the truth will come out. By closing practice, Brown is demonstrating just how neurotic he has become. The good news is that Texas will not lose as many games this season as they did last season. The Bad news is that Texas is still miles behind Oklahoma, and falls into the race for 2nd place catagory with Missouri, Texas A&M, and Oklahoma State.

My beef with SBR was not monitoring the college football forum. They were letting it go to crap and I expressed my feelings in a not so polite way. Anyway, they seem to be monitoring now and other topics that were out of place in this forum are being moved. I'll serve the infraction and make the best of it. Let's just all have fun with this football forum.
AUBURN
The search for Cam Newton's successor began in earnest yesterday morning. Offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn opened spring drills by offering his two returning quarterbacks, junior Barrett Trotter and sophomore Clint Moseley, equal opportunities to showcase themselves throughout practice. Malzahn said each QB would get equal reps with the top team. He wants to evaluate them with the players who know how to run the offense. Malzahn is hoping to name a starter before two-a-days begin in August, meaing spring performance will play a critical role. Should be a good battle there on the Plains.
NOTRE DAME
Former coach Lou Holtz will receive an honorary doctorate degree from his old school. Holtz coached the Irish from 1986-96, winning a national championship during the 1998 season. Like the ole professor or not, Holtz was a pretty solid coach for Notre Dame.
IOWA
Hawkeye receiver Marvin McNutt will miss all of spring practice as he recovers from shoulder surgery. McNutt is expected to be back and ready to go by June summer workouts. He's a key member of the offense having caught 53 passes for 861 yards and 8 touchdowns last season. He's expected to be the go-to guy this season for the Hawkeyes.
UCLA
Quarterback Kevin Prince has been ruled out of spring practice. It was hoped the off-injured quarterback could take part in limited passing drills, but that seems unlikely now. Prince has a bad knee that knocked him out during October of last season. It is hoped that he will be ready for fall camp. Quarterback among other things are a problem area for the Bruins. Last year, UCLA was 116th in passing yards per game, and were one of just seven Division A teams that failed to hit double digits in touchdown passes for the season.
ALABAMA
During the 2010 season, the Crimson Tide faced SIX of their eight conference foes as they were coming off bye weeks. In the official schedule just released by the SEC, Bama will face just three schools coming off their bye weeks (Vanderbilt, Tennessee, LSU). Alabama will have its bye week before the LSU game.
Here's a look at SEC teams and bye weeks for 2011 season.
Alabama - 1 (LSU)
Arkansas - 0
Auburn - 0
Florida - 1 (Georgia)
Georgia - 2 (Florida, Auburn)
Kentucky - 1 (Miss State)
LSU - 1 (Alabama)
Ole Miss - 1 (Arkansas)
Miss State - 0
S. Carolina - 0
Tennessee - 1 (S. Carolina)
Vanderbilt - 0

Back to Football. USC head coach lane kiffin says that he expects this season will be the last for Junior QB Matt Barkley at USC. Kiffin said that if Barkley continues to show the improvment that he showed last season, he expects Barkley to be a top 10 selection in the 2012 NFL draft. This is keeping with Kiffin's promise to his recruits that he will get them into the NFL as soon as possible. In his heart, he is probably hoping that Barkley stays at USC for his senior season, especially if USC loses their appeal and is still on probation and banned from a bowl game this season, but publically, Kiffin is sticking to his promises to get his players into the NFL sooner, rather than later. This is what future recruits want to hear.

The Jim Rressel situation just keeps getting more interesting. According to the Columbus Dispatch, Tressel forwarded emails he had received last April to Jeanette, Pa., businessman Ted Sarniak. Just happens that Sarniak has been QB Pryor's mentor and point man in the quarterback's recruitment. The paper also reports that Tressel shared the information with someone he thought could help his QB but didn't tell proper school officials. This story AIN'T over by a long shot.
SOUTH CAROLINA
No. 1 recruit Jadeveon Clowney made headlines yesterday when a picture of him getting frisked by police in the parking lot of a Columbia, SC, bar made its way across the internet. Police were searching for individuals involved in a robbery and thought Clowney fit the description. It was determined he was not a suspect and let go. My question for Steve Spurrier. What's your highly prized, UNDERAGED, recruit doing in a bar at 2 am on a school night? Just a thought.
NEBRASKA
Running back Make Marrow is on the move again. Marrow, a 3-star recruit by Alabama in 2009 who transferred from Bama to Eastern Michigan in 2010. Now, seems he's moving to Nebraska. By the way, Marrow's father was recently added to the Cornhusker coaching staff. Marrow was not going to start at Alabama and even though he's a pretty good prospect, I doubt he plays much at Nebraska.
PENN STATE
Defensive end Pete Massaro suffered a serious knee injury during a late workout yesterday. The injury to his left knee could be serious enough to put the junior's 2011 season in jeopardy. Massaro missed the entire 2009 season due to a torn ACL in his right knee. Last season, Massaro started ten games leading the team with 5.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks.
ALABAMA
Just a few days into spring practice and the Crimson Tide is working hard on improving its pass rush. After seeing numbers drop from the 2009 season last year, one of the goals of spring is to get better. The Alabama defense didn't affect opposing quarterbacks nearly as much in 2010 as it did a year earlier. Ankle injuries to Marcell Dareus and linebacker Courtney Upshaw, a pass rushing specialist, contributed to the sagging stats. Still, the lack of production did fuel recruiting decisions. Junior college transfers Jesse Williams and Quinton Dial are defensive linemen who could step into prominent roles starting this spring.
2009
Sacks: 32
Yards lost: 365
QB hurries: 79
2010
Sacks: 27
Yards lost:177
QB hurries: 52
* five of the sacks came against Michigan State in the Capital One Bowl so only 22 for the 2010 regular season.

Tressel and A.D. Smith are in major major trouble now. They are involved in a cover-up, and the NCAA now has the proof. Many do not see how Tressel can survive this. Ohio State is now looking at major NCAA penalties, perhaps as severe as the ones handed down to USC.

KENTUCKY
The Wildcats defense is using spring football practices to adjust to new co-defensive coordinator Rick Minter's scheme and alignments. Minter is installing a 4-3 base defense, but with wrinkles allowing for switches to a 4-2-5 and 3-4 alignment. During Saturday's practice, safety Winston Guy played much closer to the line of scrimmage than he has in the past. Also, junior Martavius Neloms, who played cornerback his first two years on campus, spent time at safety. Head coach Joker Phillips told the Lexington Herald that the Cats are still getting used to a new look and terminology. Unless Phillips improves recruiting for the Wildcats, no scheme in the world will work in the SEC. Kentucky was just ahead of Vanderbilt in recruiting this year.
ALABAMA
There were around 1,200 high school coaches in Tuscaloosa for a two day clinic that ended Saturday. The group heard from Jets coach Rex Ryan, former Florida State coach Bobby Bowden, ex-Miami coach Randy Shannon and Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg. Ex-Alabama players DeMeco Ryans and Jarret Johnson also spoke to the coaches.
Alabama took Sunday off from spring practice but will return to the field today. The Tide has gone through four of its NCAA allotment of 15 spriing workouts. The annual A-Day Game will be April 16 and televised by ESPN.
TEXAS TECH
Head coach Tommy Tuberville has named Seth Doege as his No. 1 quarterback at the end of spring practice. During the annual spring game that concludes spring sessions, Doege threw for 317 yards and 4 touchdowns before 12,000 fans. Twelve thousand watching a spring game is a far cry from Tuberville's old school (Auburn) 80,000 plus last spring.
OKLAHOMA
Sooners' offensive tackle Jarvis Jones has undergone surgery to repair a knee injury he sustained in spring practice. Officials said Saturday that Jones had an operation to repair a torn right patella tendon and could be out for six months. Not good news for Oklahoma as many see the offensive line as the weakness on what should be a strong team.
OKLAHOMA STATE
Senior safety Markelle Martin had surgery on his left shoulder and will miss all of spring practice. Head coach Mike Gundy said the team had a lot of depth at safety a expected Martin to make full recovery and have an impact during the coming season.
AUBURN
It's becoming apparent that new Auburn defensive line coach Mike Pelton uses a much different approach than his predecessor Tracy Rocker (went to Tenn Titans). The players see Pelton more of a teacher and high energy guy. Rocker was more "just go gettem" and Pelton is more of a detail teacher.
Jake Drum, a 6-foot-5, 215 pound forward on the basketball, has decided to give football a try. Drum is trying to walk on in football as a wide receiver. Chizik said he and staff would look at him just like they would anyone else. Right now, all the receivers at Auburn are a work in progress even though DeAngelo Benton has been singled out so far in spring drills.

USC A.D. Pat Haden wants to sit in on the Tennessee infranctions hearing that the NCAA will be holding. Aparently he will be allowed to do so. Is this a mission to get more informed about the NCAA and how it works, or is this a stern warning to HC Lane Kiffin, who was not Haden's choice, but former A.D. Mike Garretts choice.

MICHIGAN STATE
Six months after pleading guilty to his involvement in a laptop theft ring that victimized the Detroit Public Schools, Dion Sims has been reinstated to the Michigan State football program. Head coach Mark Dantonio made the announcement regarding the tight end yesterday afternoon. Sims was one of ten men arrested and charged for their involvement in a scheme that resulted in the theft of 104 laptops from the school system worth around $160,000. Sims pleaded guilty to Felony receiving and concealing stolen property, and was sentenced to one year's probation and 15 hours of community service. Unbelievable...........
OLE MISS
Seems Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt has a fondness for "thug" quarterbacks. A Jefferson Parish (La) sheriff's deputy working security at a department store saw Ole Miss quarterback Evan Ingram enter a fitting room area with clothing. Evans was approached by the officer and was found wearing a $59 stolen swimsuit beneath his pants. Of course, like last year's thug quarterback (Oregon transfer Masoli), I'm sure Nutt will forgive him if he is a good enough football player.
MIAMI
Six Hurricane football players, including perhaps 2010's top overall recruit, Seantrel Henderson, have reportedly been suspended for the 2011 opener against Maryland. Touted running back Storm Johnson, linebacker Kevin Cain, defensive backs Keion Payne and Devonta Davis, and defensive lineman Dyron Dye were the other players that are also expected to miss one game. The university has yet to comment on these events. According to NBC Miami, however, the suspensions are not academic related meaning this involves something outside the classroom.

The Auburn Tigers had a number one football team to be sure. How did they do in the classroom? The Schools Athletic Academic Progress rate has dropped to No. 85. I don't really know what that means but it doesn't sound too good. Auburn has the greatest disparity among bowl teams between Caucasian graduation rate (100 percent) and African American graduation rate (49 percent).
ALABAMA
Defensive end Brandon Moore has been indefinitely suspended from the football program. I don't know the reason but based on Saban's comments, it doesn't apperar that Moore will be returning anytime soon. The redshirt sophomore was expected to challenge for significant playing time this season.

For anyone who hates Auburn and/or was pissed about the Cam Newton thing, make sure to watch HBO tomorrow night (3/30) as you will LOVE all the accusations of money and pay-for-play. I guess we were picked b/c of Cam but it goes on everywhere. Google "Sports By Brooks" for a full preview of what's in store.
