ALABAMA
The localized version of the NFL pro scouting combine will hit Tuscaloosa tomorrow morning. Alabama's Pro Day will still be a big event even though two of the bigger names won't be participating in all of the physical workouts. Julio Jones' broken foot discovered more than a week ago in Indianapolis will keep the wide receiver from trying to match his recorded time in the 40 yard dash of 4.39 seconds. Quarterback Greg McElroy didn't participate in the combine throwing drills because of a broken bone in his hand, and published reports indicate he won't throw Wednesday, either. Projected first round picks Marcell Dareus and Mark Ingram are both healthy and expected to participate. The 40-yard dash and agility drills will start at about 11:30 a.m.
NEBRASKA
Iowa and Nebraska will meet on the Friday after Thanksgiving in each of the next two seasons. The schools announced Monday they will face each other in Lincoln on November 25 and in Iowa City on November 23, 2012. The Cornhuskers are leaving the Big 12 for the Big Ten. Nebraska athletic director Tom Osborne said in a statement that he's pleased the Big Ten has allowed the Huskers to continue their tradition of playing the day after Thanksgiving.
OHIO STATE
Head coach Jim Tressell is probably in deep do-do. It is reported Tressell was informed that some of his players had sold memorabilia to the owner of a tattoo parlor more than eight months before the school said it was made aware of improper transactions. Reports say Tressell received information as early as April 2010 that players were selling items to Edward Rife, who owns Fine Line Ink Tattoos in Columbus. Ohio State AD Gene Smith has said the local U.S. Attorney's office December 7 alerted the school that some of its players were selling items such as jerseys and championship rings to Rife.
NORTH CAROLINA
In August 2010, defensive tackle Brandon Willis decided to leave the Tar Heels due to family issues, and ultimately transferred to UCLA. Less than seven months later, Willis has decided to leave the Bruins....take a wild guess where he is rumored to be headed. Yeap, back to North Carolina. As a high school recruit, Willis was rated the #7 defensive tackle in the country.
MISSOURI
Former Tiger quarterback Chase Daniel (now backup with NO Saints) is establishing the "Chase Daniel Lone Star State Scholarship" for one special little guy on Missouri's roster each year. Daniel said his goal is to help out a kid from the state of Texas each year. Daniel said he just wanted to give back to the University that had help him so much. Good job Chase!
