⚽ Uruguay vs. Cape Verde Prediction: World Cup Picks & Best Bets (June 21)
Last Updated: June 21, 2026 11:58 AM EDT • 3 minute read X Social Google News Link
By tying Spain 0-0 in its opening match, Cape Verde went against all World Cup predictions to pull off the most shocking result of the tournament thus far. However, in my Uruguay vs. Cape Verde prediction, I highlight why Uruguay has a massive advantage in this match and should win comfortably.
Uruguay is a -220 favorite for Sunday's 6 p.m. ET game at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla. The match will air on FS1 and Telemundo and stream on FOX One.

⚽ Who will win Uruguay vs. Cape Verde?
Uruguay only scored once against Saudi Arabia, but La Celeste dominated everywhere but the scoreboard. They attempted 27 shots, 10 of which were on target, earned 14 corners, and held possession for 67% of the game. With 1.72 expected goals, I don't expect the plan to change much for Uruguay.
The Cape Verde defense was excellent against Spain, but I don't think they can withstand another onslaught. Uruguay will be comfortable against a team with just 26% possession against Spain. And while Cape Verde shut Spain out, the Spanish had 2.10 expected goals. Opportunities will be there for Uruguay.
Score prediction: Uruguay 2 Cape Verde 0
💵 My best bet: Uruguay Over 6.5 corners (+104)
Uruguay is likely to record more than 70% possession in this match. Constantly in an attacking position, I anticipate Uruguay creating many opportunities against a defense that conceded 11 corners to Spain. And remember, Uruguay had 14 of its own against Saudi Arabia.
+104 is a fair price for Over 6.5, but this should be so lopsided that I'm willing to take a chance on Over 7.5 (+182) and Over 8.5 (+32) as well.
🦶 Who will score in Uruguay vs. Cape Verde?
Follow all of our expert soccer betting analysis for the 2026 World Cup.
Federico Vinas, F, Uruguay (+155)
Though Vinas didn't score in the opener against Saudi Arabia, he finished with 0.50 expected goals. That's double the amount of expected goals for Maxi Araujo, the player who actually scored for Uruguay.
Vinas attempted five shots, three of which were on target, and in a game where Uruguay should maintain possession, I expect the ball at his feet a lot near the net. Vinas only has two goals in 12 matches with Uruguay, but after his usage in the first match, I love this price of +155 as a value play.
Best Uruguay vs. Cape Verde goal-scorer pick: Federico Vinas (+155 via FanDuel

🥅 Will both teams score in Uruguay vs. Cape Verde?
No, Cape Verde won't score in this match. Uruguay had one slip in its first game, and Saudi Arabia made the defense pay. But Cape Verde created almost no opportunities against Spain, finishing with 0.20 expected goals. Maybe if Uruguay scores early enough, Cape Verde will change its approach, but Uruguay's defense is legit, allowing one or fewer goals in seven of its last eight competitive matches, with four shutouts during that stretch.
Both teams to score (BTTS) pick: No (-190 via DraftKings)
