Atletico Madrid vs. Tottenham prediction: Atletico Madrid & Over 1.5 goals (-125)
Atletico Madrid is third in La Liga and has the second-best home record, losing just once in 14 matches. It faces a Tottenham side mired in adversity and unrest.
Spurs have played well in the Champions League, but are fighting for their Premier League lives. All is not well, and it hasn't been for some time. New head coach Igor Tudor seems to have made things worse, with his players unresponsive, even resisting instruction.
I can't see them flicking a switch against such an elite side with proven Champions League pedigree. It's my best play of the day.
Atletico Madrid vs. Tottenham prediction: Alexander Sorloth anytime goal (-110)
Tottenham has conceded 15 goals in its six matches since its last Champions League appearance. Atletico Madrid will create chances, and it should score at least two.
Alexander Sorloth, meanwhile, scored a hat trick against Club Brugge in the second leg of the knockout playoffs. He has five goals in nine Champions League matches and netted three in the previous two La Liga contests.
Sorloth will be salivating at the thought of facing Tottenham's porous rearguard, which also allowed five in Paris during the group phase.
Atalanta vs. Bayern Munich prediction: Bayern Munich & Over 1.5 goals (-130)
Bayern Munich has the second-shortest Champions League odds, and it won three of four away matches in the group stage. Its only defeat came in London against Arsenal. One of those road wins came against defending champs PSG.
Atalanta was superb in its home leg against Borussia Dortmund, winning 4-1, but Bayern Munich represents a much stiffer challenge for the Serie A side.
Atalanta tied Slavia Prague and lost to Athletic Club at home in the group stage, and lost three of 14 at New Balance Arena in the Serie A. Bayern, meanwhile, is unbeaten in 12 Bundesliga road matches.
Newcastle vs. Barcelona prediction: Barcelona ML (+130)
Barcelona beat Newcastle 2-1 at St James' Park in the group stage, and I expect a similar result on Tuesday. Barcelona is in first place in La Liga, four points up on Real Madrid. They have the second-best road record and should raise their level for such an important contest.
While excellent at home in the Champions League, Newcastle has shown frailties in the top flight, losing five of 15 at St James' Park.
They're in 12th place in the Premier League, which Barcelona, with all of its Champions League experience, should be able to overcome, even in the raucous, hostile environment.
💡 How I'm betting Champions League Round of 16 first leg
To optimize value, I've picked a 2-leg parlay for Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid. Those teams and accompanying bets are too good to pass up, especially with how rotten Tottenham is playing.
The only bet that doesn't get a full unit is Sorloth's anytime goal-scoring prop. He's been hot recently, but his overall goal-scoring record isn't sensational.
