With the United States still hoping to secure the No. 1 seed entering the quarterfinals, my USA vs. Germany prediction and best bets for today's men's Olympic hockey tilt (3:10 p.m. ET, Peacock) focus on that headlining narrative.
I love the fact that this game for Team USA, despite their 2-0 record, plus-seven goal difference and being the massive -1000 moneyline betting favorite, is meaningful. I'm backing Mike Sullivan's men to win by four goals or more in a high-scoring game, with Jack Eichel putting in another impressive offensive performance.

While I believe Team USA will cover the spread, I'm not confident enough to make it my best bet. Germany scored three goals in each of its first two games, and I envision Leon Draisaitl and Tim Stutzle making life somewhat uncomfortable for Team USA, which hasn't looked airtight defensively.
Team USA doesn't need any additional motivation as it tries to overcome the goal-differential advantage Canada holds, which should lead to increased offense. Team USA's best players have come to life, including Eichel and Jake Guentzel. They will be raring to go against an inferior German side.

🔥 Best USA vs. Germany prop bet: Jack Eichel Over 1.5 points (+126)
Eichel was at his best in the previous game against Denmark, finishing with a goal, an assist and seven shots on goal. He also had two helpers in the opener against Latvia, bringing his total to four points in two games.
The Eichel Tower scored two points in three of the four games for the Vegas Golden Knights before the Olympics. With so much riding on this result, I'd play this bet to +110. Any plus-money odds for Eichel to secure his third consecutive multi-point game would be fair, but I much prefer the +126 odds currently offered by FanDuel.
Why is USA vs. Germany important for United States?
As discussed in my Canada vs. France prediction, Team USA can still finish first overall entering the quarterfinals. Why is that important?
It would mean a much more straightforward quarterfinals battle. If they finish second, the more likely scenario, Team USA would likely play Sweden, the team with the third-shortest Olympic hockey odds. Being the first seed would likely mean a quarterfinal against some combination of Switzerland, Germany and Czechia.
Canada has a plus-9 goal differential, two ahead of Team USA's plus-7.
