Saturday delivers a Game 7, the most exciting 60 minutes (or more) in sports, when Boston hosts Toronto with a second-round berth at stake, as we offer our expert Maple Leafs-Bruins player props based on the best NHL odds

The Boston Bruins (47-20-15) and Toronto Maple Leafs (46-26-10) have an unshakable case of déjà vu as they prepare for Game 7 in Boston, with puck drop set for tonight at 8 p.m. ET from TD Garden. The Bruins have lost three Game 7s in a row, while the Maple Leafs have dropped as many consecutive Game 7s to the big bad B's.

CBS piggybacked on a report from the Athletic that says Auston Matthews remains unlikely to suit up for the winner-takes-all affair after missing the past two games due to an undisclosed injury/ailment. However, his status hadn't been confirmed as of early Saturday evening, even as he participated in the Leafs' morning skate:

While they won both games without their talisman, securing a third in a row in hostile environments offers yet another stern challenge for the Maple Leafs, the consensus underdogs across our best sports betting sites. The Bruins have shorter Stanley Cup odds despite losing two in a row.

Accompanying our Maple Leafs-Bruins Game 7 predictions, here are our best Bruins vs. Maple Leafs player props and NHL picks for Saturday (odds via our best NHL betting sites; pick confidence is based on a 1-to-5-star scale).

Maple Leafs vs. Bruins prop bet predictions for Saturday

Bruins Over 28.5 shots ⭐⭐⭐⭐

I'm focussing on something the Bruins have probably discussed ad nauseam behind closed doors: the need to make Joseph Woll's life immeasurably more difficult in Game 7. While Woll deserves heaping praise for his performances in Games 5 and 6, the Bruins made life far too pedestrian for the Maple Leafs netminder, especially in the opening 30 minutes or so.

The Bruins had mustered only two shots on goal just over seven minutes into the second period of Game 6. They weren't much better in Game 5, with just two shots after the opening 20 minutes. You could see steam rising from head coach Jim Montgomery's head in both post-game press conferences, his appearance and demeanor resembling Stone Cold Steve Austin during his prime.

Boston had at least 29 shots in Games 2 and 3 and finished with 28 in Game 5 despite having just seven shots at the midway point. Expect a much more desperate Bruins team from the opening puck drop. Betway offers -118 odds, which pays a profit of $8.47 on a winning $10 bet. The implied odds are 54.13%.

William Nylander Over 3.5 shots ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Since returning to the lineup in Game 4, William Nylander has played better with each passing game. He is one of the only Maple Leafs' game-breakers in Matthews' absence. Whether Matthews suits up or not, the impetus is on Nylander to have another standout game. The Game 6 hero had two goals on five shots. He also had five shots in the Game 5 overtime victory.

Nylander's stats in elimination games increase the likelihood of this bet paying out. He has seven goals in 13 games when the Maple Leafs face elimination, ensuring he fires more pucks toward goal. He had at least four shots in five of his last six elimination games.

Even if Toronto doesn't get many man advantages, Nylander should create enough space with his speed and elusiveness to get four shots. The -125 odds imply a probability of 55.56%, and a winning $10 wager pays a profit of $8.

Brad Marchand Over 2.5 shots ⭐⭐⭐

Marchand not only let me down in Game 6 (I backed him to get at least one assist), but also all of those who support the B's. He was even worse in Game 5 at home, which makes me think he's in for a spirited Game 7. His leadership skills have been questioned recently, with some suggesting the emotional captain can't lead his team to the Promised Land without the recently retired Patrice Bergeron's stewardship.

Game 7 offers one more opportunity for Marchand to set the record straight. With goals at a premium, I'm backing Marchand to get at least three shots. While you could lock him in for at least one assist (-110), I'm not as confident the B's can light the lamp without several power-play opportunities. Marchand had five shots in Game 2 and six in Game 3 but hasn't registered three on goal since.

Best odds: -105 via Betway
