Saturday’s NHL player props

David Pastrnak anytime goalscorer (-105 via DraftKings) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

There is no team that Bruins sniper David Pastrnak enjoys playing more than the Flyers. Pasta has scored 26 goals against the Flyers in 29 games. That’s the most goals he's scored against any team despite Philadelphia not being in Boston’s division.

The Flyers have been struggling defensively recently, especially against top teams. The Lightning and Maple Leafs scored seven and six goals against them, respectively, in the past week.

Pastrnak scored in three straight games against the Flyers and scored multiple goals in three straight against Philadelphia with seven total goals. Take a sprinkle on Over 1.5 goals (+600 via FanDuel) and why not a hat trick at +3000 while we’re at it?

I’ll gladly take Pastrnak at an implied probability of 51.22% to score again against the Flyers, especially since he’s scored in three of his last four games.

Nathan MacKinnon Over 1.5 Points vs. Oilers (+120 via BetMGM) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Nathan MacKinnon has been on a mission this season - perhaps even more than usual - to prove that he’s one of the top players in the game. He leads the league with 115 points (42 goals, 73 assists) and is the favorite by the Hart Trophy odds.

MacKinnon has recorded at least two points in 37 of 67 games this season (55.22%) - including five straight contests - and these odds of +120 at BetMGM imply a probability of just 45.45%. It’s not like the Avalanche are expected to be in a tight-checking game against the Oilers; the total is set at 6.5, with the Over heavily favored.

There should be fireworks on Saturday night, with MacKinnon facing off against Connor McDavid.

Saturday’s NHL game picks

Hurricanes ML vs. Maple Leafs (-110 via DraftKings) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Hurricanes finally added at a trade deadline, and they did so in a big way with Jake Guentzel and Evgeny Kuznetsov. Carolina now has two dangerous scoring lines to go along with two great checking lines to round things out.

The Canes have been one of the best process-driven teams this season with the league’s second-best expected goals share at 5-on-5 (56.55%) per Natural Stat Trick. That’s helped them to a 40-20-6 record (18-11-2 on the road). Meanwhile, the Maple Leafs sit in the middle of the pack at 50.95% and, despite some strong results recently, are vulnerable at home tonight.

Carolina also now has two goalies it can rely on, with Frederik Andersen healthy and Pytor Kochetkov backing him up, so the fact that the Canes play on Sunday as well doesn’t hit as hard.

Furthermore, the Maple Leafs are still without Mitch Marner, and Calle Jarnkrok has also been added to the injured list. The Hurricanes should be bigger favorites -- or favored at all -- in Toronto on Saturday.

Predators ML vs. Kraken (-120 via FanDuel) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

We’re going with another road team on a roll - the Nashville Predators. The Preds are riding a 13-game point streak (11-0-2) and are 12-2-2 since the All-Star break. Going on the road hasn’t been an issue for them either, with a 7-0-1 away record in that span and 20-10-3 on the season.

The Kraken had a strong season last year but haven’t been able to build upon that this season. Seattle is just 28-25-12 overall and 14-13-6 at home, including losses in three straight contests.

The underlying metrics heavily favor the Predators here as well. They have the seventh-best xGF% this season and fourth-best in the last 10 games. Meanwhile, the Kraken have the fifth-worst xGF% in the last 10 games despite a 5-4-1 record.
